Pulled a mini bus out from under a tree...

The tree fell over and the bus driver didn't see it. Hit it pretty hard and got it stuck right in the big branches as well as some big ones under it too.

As I was driving past noticed they were trying to pull it out with an mpv that was causing more tyre smoke than forward movement.

So I hooked the 45 up and out that new 12HT to work :p came right out

Thanks @waiting for time , I wasn't expecting to go this far. But like we all know, the more you dig, the more you find.
You never know when you need to stop. I just start in a corner and continue untill it is steel or to dificult to create.

Popped the top cover on the transmission for the first time. There's a little bit of tooth wear, but overall, I'm happy with the condition inside. No wildly excessive play, grinding, or broken teeth.

I'll need to inspect the output shaft for wear and play to truly give it a "clean bill of health but so far I'm happy with what I'm seeing.

I also test fit the FJ60 top cover I picked up from Georg well over a year ago. I can't quite get it seated (sits up about 3mm from the transmission surface) but I'm sure I'll be able to get it squared away with some finagling. This will set the shift tower back about 3.5" and help get my V8 conversion closer to "stock" shifter positioning.

Once I figure out how to get the lid bolted down, I'm going to put the whole driveline back together with the new Downey Bellhousing, transmission cover, and engine accessories, (but no clutch, flyewheel, etc.) just so I can mock up the engine mount locations and proper engine angle in the engine bay.

Started it up and gave her some fresh air. Been in the garage hiding for the last month as the -25C and colder temps kept it indoors lol. It was above freezing the last few days so i let it run for 20 mins or so out in the sun then back into the garage.

Picked up another 83 fj43, power steering, a/c, front disc brakes.

New engine and transmission are in. Building the new rear mount next weekend and getting rid of the old 'propeller' mount.

I'd love to see what that new rear mount looks like. I know the propeller mount has its weaknesses, and I've been tossing around the idea of fabbing something different as well.

Hey Rick,
I was going to do a build thread but I decided to just post pics as I move along through the project. The 4L60e has an AA adapter that accepts the stock GM rear mount, so I'll be going as low as I can and still stay inside the skid plate. I've considered incorporating it into the skid plate but I like the idea of being able to get to things without having to temporarily support the rear.

The engine sits in almost the same position as the 5.7 and the fan hit my custom fan shroud dead center. Just a little tweaking on the P/S pump and the lower radiator outlet, and install a new air intake system. The back end will need a little fine tuning also. If my Orion sells before I get to the rear of the rig I'll go for the Atlas, 4-link and centered Dana 60. If not, I'll just move the rear axle one more hole (Ruff Stuff perches) and run what I have this year.

I've been following your rebuild/refresh and it's looking nice.

I cleaned up the garage and wiped the dust from a month of bodywork off of the chassis. New head bolts arrived from @beno, I will be attacking head gasket and buttoning up drivetrain/chassis in the upcoming weeks. Is waxing the frame overkill?
