Worked on my towing setup in my new to me 2004 LX470. Based on the thread I linked above, feelings around the integrated bumper hitch of the mid generation LX470 are... mixed.

I like the idea of it but we'll see how reality compares to expectations when I tow with it in the near future.

I did the exact same with my hitch. Mine seems to tow my 18’ car hauler just fine. I towed a Cadillac on a U-Haul 2 wheel car dolly a little while back and that did fine as well.

Rebooted a CV in the truck (apparently it’s possible though at what cost?)

Swapped out my transfer case for a non-leaky one (ran out of time to rebuild it).

Also replaced both driveshafts, greased them, sanded/wire wheeled the pinion flanges, changed oil in all three diffs, transmission drain and fill, tire rotation, fabbed up a silly little skid plate and washed out my radiator & condenser fins.

This thing is ready for battle! See y’all in Colorado at Cruisers on the Rockies

Oh I also replaced one of my doors since well, you know…also forgot to mention the inner tie rod. Those get messed up pretty easily these days so good to have replacements handy after each trip

Finally got around to changing out the ac compressor, front and rear expansion valves, receiver dryer and recharged the system. I used Nylog Blue as suggested by many ac experts on this site! I only broke one screw (rear line connection under the truck) but was able to use extractor bit to get it out. Luckily, I had ordered the replacement bolt for just such a moment 🤦‍♂️.

Found out that I had the opening for the cabin air filters so I installed some Denso filters!

Pressures maybe a little high. IDK. I put in 36 oz.

Also reconditioned the wheels on this new to me truck :)
VHT high temp flat aluminum with clear coat. Not bad from 5 feet, LOL

Brake fluid flush and rebooted my ignition coils with the denso kit. Also, remounted my Grom with Velcro instead of screws since I am finding myself having to unplug it to reset once every two months or so.

Draining and filling :

  • Cooling system
  • Engine
  • Auto transmission
  • Front diff
  • Rear diff
  • T-Case
Replacement of :

  • Air filter
  • Oil filter
  • Diesel filter
Lubrication of front wheel bearings
Tire rotation
Pressure wash under the truck

Chipped away at my rear bumper build. Center section is almost done, few more gussets and tubes to add so it’s all tied in together. I was in a mad scramble trying to get something roadworthy for the holiday weekend trip over to my folks in Kansas, only had 2 nights to work on it. Everything is rolled to match the body lines, frame is chopped and boxed with 3/16” plate. Still need to make the sides and a small cooler tray above the license plate.

Had a squeak coming from the rear end. Worked on tracking it down with a stethoscope and was between the shock and the upper control arm. Had a trip planned so decided to run it as is. On the trip we noticed the noise went away and didn’t come back so figured I should look again when we got back.

Driver side didn’t look too bad.

But that passenger side…..

I remember that feeling. Did you go with the Huracan Fab kit?
Nope, doing my own home-brew. Convering the process in my build thread (linked in sig), but now on day 2 of no power due to the hurricane. All the time in the world while work is closed, but no electricity to work at night. 😢

Very sleek design! ...But man is that swing out long. Any concerns about trying to manipulate it to open the rear in a parking lot?

It doesn’t seem as dramatic in real life compared to the picture. Pretty similar to opening the rear door on our GX. I knew for sure that i didn’t want two swings to deal with, i have this idea of making a drop down panel that lines up with the tailgate to create an L shaped workspace at camp. We’ll see how it all ends up, pretty much building on the fly at this point 😅

Welded in a Dynomax 17748. Sounds basically factory. OEM lasted 225,000 miles. That's mostly Moab red dirt you're seeing. It sees Moab trails often. Used all 3 OEM exhaust hangers by welding threaded rod to them to reach the smaller Dynomax muffler. Not my prettiest welds by any means but they are strong and no leaks! To reduce the amount of time I had to weld under the truck, I tacked the front of the muffler to the OEM pipes off the cats first and then unbolted that entire section to take to my bench to weld. I welded in reducers as well on both sides of the mufflers.
