One last ride out in the Chequamegon National Forest before I put it away and head out to Thailand for the winter.

5 day Mojave Preserve trip

We drove down from the Bay Area to Laughlin NV on wednesday and started the Mojave trail from there and ended the trail in Bakersfield last sunday.

Had a lot of fun with great folks from the local 4x4 overlanding group up here. I'd like to go back there on spring when the wild flowers starts blooming.

I also finally got my AJIK tire carrier on before the trip and it was the perfect time to test it. No rattles... I'd go with the full armor but I can't justify the cost for now. This was the best alternative for me.

15years ago?? Wow... this was my first time out here on the Mojave:mad:
:D

It was actually an easy and fun trail (im not a pro but there was nothing technical), we all had a blast. Blazer will do fine on the trail, we had a tundra and a manual x terra with us and they did fine. A few wheel spins and slides but they got off. We didn't make it to the wash and I heard it's soft out there and people get stuck easily.

More pics...

The boys having fun in the salt flats and a few shots from the old mining relics we've passed through...

Took the kids for their first ever off roading. Went to Beasley knob in north Georgia. Ended up on an extreme trail without my knowledge. Wow, what an adventure!

I installed a Curt Class III receiver (#13091), and a Tow Ready T-Connector (#118357). I ordered both from Amazon on Wednesday, and got both packages (one UPS, one Fed Ex) today. Actually, the hitch won't stay mounted. I'll put it on whenever I need to pull my 4 x 6 utility trailer, or want to use the hitch carrier.

hey, did you leave something in the mail box ?

yes, Mohave Road is not terribly technical - although the river crossing by Bakersfield may require scouting and walking it first, depending on water levels - also, if wet, you can get yourself royally stuck in the salt flats

very scenic and remote - we didn't meet another party in 3 days, only on the last day did we meet a Ford Van puking transmission fluid (he was going up an incline, loaded to the hilt with rocks -or so he said ); he didn't have the sense to slow down and take it easy even after we donated all our spare tranny fluid to him  - I am sure he paid dearly for the tow

really, a cool trail

well, woke up early to clean and wash the garage, took the cruiser outside and when i went in i found a huge pool of oil, took a quick look under the truck and it seemed to be leaking from the front diff, i wasn't able to track it back, and it was not leaking very fast, so after cleaning the garage took a flashlight under the truck, seemed like the oil filter i got last saturday is dripping when the truck is on, so mom took it to the shop and got a new oil filter, changed it about 2 hours ago, still no leaks.

seems to me that it only leaked when the truck was on and the oil under pressure, must have made the big pool after mom took it out on wensday, oil pressure was very unstable during the trip to the shop.
hopefully thats it, no big deal

Who ever changed it probably either double stacked the oil filter gaskets or didn't notice there wasn't one on there.

what was supposed to be a simple put in new radiator, waterpump and new hoses over last weekend turned into a week long event that just got done today.

The fan clutch has nuts chiseled onto the studs but the PO so had to deal with that. Had to remove the studs to get the waterpump off and damaged the threads doing that so had to go get a tap and die set to fix that. Broke a pulley tension bolt so had to track down a new one of those. Broke my tranny cooler when trying to take the hoses off it so had to go buy a new one of those.

But its all done today, stays nice and cool and doesnt leak any more coolant.

2nd day in blairsville Georgia. Creek crossing.
