Response to earlier...

HG / Rebuild done at 270k as PM.

Damn gas gauge has some sort of issue... never stays near the F for very long at all!!

Finally finished my rear bumper. Had it blasted and powder coated along with my Metal Tech sliders.

;)

Installed some OME 861/862 springs...took about 45 minutes...ride is improved immensely ...now to get the tires mounted

Recently did Ironman panhards and MAF rear control arms. Everything is moving and positioned correctly again. Just got my axles done at JT's / Just Differentials this week. 4.88's and rebuilt knuckles. Great people and shop! It's nice that they're within driving distance for me. LC drives like it should again. Speedo is now 11.5% high. Thinking of Mark's 4x4 speedo correction box. Does 75 mph (easily) at about 2850 rpm.

Changed out my upper hatch struts as the 22 year old ones were getting tired. No longer have to worry about the hatch dropping on my head, instead I have to watch I don't take an uppercut in the chin! Much improved! Went with the McMaster Carr units.

Looks good. We have a few local 80 owners here running the same tires. They ride pretty nice for such a knobby tire

Switches and Wiring

Decided to install up my new "Toyota" switches for my OBA setup and the original driving lights that came with the truck.

Its a good thing I did, I discovered some interesting wiring.

I will use a P-Touch to label the OBA switch.

soldered in the tail light harness pigtail i got from brakasha's part-out.

coincidentally into the tail light i got from him.

his truck seems to have been in great shape. Recommended source of parts.

Spartan Locker Installed

After I destroyed the spider gears in my rear third on a wheeling trip a few weeks back, I am trying another route. I went ahead and installed a drop-in auto locker, of the Spartan variety, in the rear third of my Land Cruiser. :)

The Spartan locker went into a spare used rear diff that I purchased here on MUD. It was missing the spider gears, so with the carrier empty, it seemed like the perfect time to try one of these out.

I am interested to experience first hand how it changes the driving characteristics of the vehicle. This truck doesn't see snow, so that potential concern isn't an issue. However, it will be interesting to see if I can get used to the pops and clunks on the road (how much, how bad, etc.), and how the locker improves off road driving.

Installed the Polk db651's, 6.5 front and rear. Couldn't find a paint color I liked so i painted them with Rustoleum hammered look brown paint. I thought it looked okay after I painted them, but got a bit impatient and an hour after painting I sprayed a coat of clear over them. Fast forward to the next morning and the clear had a different effect then I was expecting; it leveled all of the hammered effect out of the paint. So, the covers turned out a medium metallic brown. They are not an exact match, but i think they turned out pretty nice.
