Got this HDJ81, should I go 35s or not???

That's awesome. I had plans to do the same but was also told our 80A alt might be too small. Please report back as I'm curious 👍
I will report back. I am just hardwiring it in now and will test further. I think it is a good option to be able to charge a lot faster than the normal 90 watts out of the 12v outlet. I am planning a month + long trip later this month. With the Charger1 you can set the voltage just in case the alternator can't handle the full load.

All depends what you plan to do with it and how much you want to spend. If you plan to offroad go 37's. You can fit 37's and not have to trim fenders ect. But lots of other things should be done. Re-gear to 4.88. Chromoly axle at least in front. Brace your steering box, maybe even hydro-assit. Extended caster correction radius arms to go with the lift to fit 37,'s. Extended bump stops ect. 37s also fill out the wheel well perfectly in my opinion. 35's is easier. Less lift generally speaking. Can run on stock gears but re-gear is still a good idea. More options on re-gear if trying to get back to stock rpm's. You csn re-gear diff's (4.56) OR you can put 10% underdrive gears in your xfer case. If you do the xfer case option definitely install 3.11 low gears! My favorite mod on my 93 hdj81. Caster correction still a good idea depending on lift. I did it the hard and $$ way, I went to 35's did the xfer case 10% underdrive and low gears and everything else to go withbthe lift BUT a year later wanted 37's, so re-geared my diff's to 4.56. There are some advantages to doing it this way but it's definitely more $$. I would think long and hard 35's vs 37's.

100% ....35's are the sweet spot for a mild 80 series build. You don't really have to do much more than 2-3" lift and add the 35" tires and enjoy. 37's = slippery slope but worth it if the wheeling you will be doing is more than mild.

Great advice…mine on 35’s with a rear locker is extremely capable….and still fits in the garage!

IMO 37s are the sweet spot on a 80 !

Has anyone tried running power to the back using the hole for the radio antenna? If so how difficult was it without removing the fender? If I remember correctly there is a grommet or pass through in the body/structure of the 80.

It’s doable, I run my ham radio antenna cord through there.

Are you talking about the firewall hole into the cabin? My aux batt is in the engine compartment and ran 6 AWG pwr and ground though that hole and down PS kick panel and under door sills to the 3rd row compartment where I mounted a fuse panel behind the compartment door. I put a CB on the firewall to protect that line.
 
I get some serious anxiety levels when i see peeps doing this snorkel install..😫
oh yah. Safari snorkel is nothing compared to this. It helps that I picked up an extra fender just in case.

No, There is another hole on the outside under the fender where the antenna cable runs.
