My dad used to own an archery shop in Chicago in 60s and one in Flagstaff in the 70s. One of the hazards of shooting the cedars was that you had to be very careful when shooting them repeatedly. He had two of his customers put a cedar arrow into their bow arm as they had cracked and the shooter did not realize it. One was minor, the second was pretty gruesome from his description. Aluminum arrows, when they came out, solved a lot of problems associated with the wooden shafts.
Now that problem is back with a vengeance l. These super high tech carbon arrows will splinter on these powerful compound bows and guys will literally be stuck to the bow with a split up arrow through their arm and wrapped around the bow.. .

I will stick to a revurve......

Finally installed a resonator on the 80. My rig has been sold so I am completing a small checklist of items I have neglected over the years. The whine from the missing resonator that was cut off with the 4x4 labs bumper install has been annoying and this new resonator has completely silenced that. Wish I would have done that years ago.
Took it to DEQ and it passed with flying colors. Now just need to fix one transmission cooler hose that’s under the battery box and it will be going to its new home next week. The green 80 I built a turbo for will be getting my full attention the next coming weeks and hopefully be on the road soon.

Discovered last weekend that a rear shock had failed. Was under my 1997 FZJ80 and found the driver's side rear shock just mounted at the bottom - the top stud had snapped!
IMG_5439.jpeg

This rear shock is a Bilstein 5100 which is rated for a 0 - 2 inch lift on the 80 Series rear axle. Last fall (~10 months ago) I broke a Bilstein 5100 front shock while on a 4x4 trail trail. Replaced that shock under warranty but after this rear one failed decided it was time to move on from Bilstein.

Did a little research online then contacted Cruiser Outfitters for their opinion. Ended-up buying a pair of Dobinson IMR rear shocks for my 80. Impressed by the build quality and robustness of the IMR shocks versus the 5100s.

I had some rear bilstein shocks shear the top stud like that too. Bilstein was a pain to work with on warranty, so I just went with Ironman … waaay better.

More shooting and hiking. Made it to the highest point on the la sal mtns, mt peale at 12,720ft. The La sal's are the 2nd tallest range in utah after the uintas.

How about the ride difference?

OEM JDM headlamps came in. Spent some time cleaning them up before I put them in.

Needed to correct the caster angle after the lift. Dropped in some Ironman 4x4 drop brackets.

Tracks so much better now.

Super clean. Just an FYI - and you probably already know this - but the beam pattern for those JDM housings are meant for a RHD road so you'll sometimes be shining your light into oncoming driver's faces. Even though the headlights aren't super bright I was confused why people kept flashing their brights at me. I ended up buying some LHD Depo headlights to replace the JDM headlights.

Finally finished rear body facelift. Buttlift?
Roof and hatch repainted after welding spoiler holes.
Hatch glass re-installed after paint.
Offset license plate bracket.
@4x4labs bumper with right sided spare option and non-flare option and I trimmed my flares. I like the look!
Bumper in custom color to match 40th grey.

Thanks for the heads up, hasn't happened yet, but I was concerned that might be the case. I'll checkout the LHD depo headlamps!
