How about using paste wax if it is smooth enough? I found that if you can sand your rust smooth enough, like 220 grit for areas without single-stage enamel, and 600 for areas with single-stage enamel, a paste wax will not be chalky when done...

I'm just going to add one more "no" to WD-40. I grew up with the stuff around, saw the 1000 uses, penetrant to arthritis cure. Later learned that it's not that great for any of those things. The only thing I keep it around for is literally...

I uploaded this for my fellow F-Headers from the 70s in the 40/55 section. Consider how the humidity and temperature in your garage affects your most current covering of dirt and winter brine. Thank Nissan for putting it in their Owner's...

Last week a customer brought me a lift gate truck that doesn't function. He replaced the control relay and placed the power wire to ground. Customer installed direct short. In another instance some moron built himself a interference 22re. He's...

Hey dude! I am also wanting some rust protection for my 80. I have done some research and CRC shines way above fluid film and lasts for a pretty long time. I will post the link to it on amazon. Also if you want to watch a good video about it vs...

As a x surfer I to live near the beach with a great white water ocean view but as other have said its really hard on metal. Everything rust it's a lot of extra work. I'm over it but my wife refuses to relocate and I only get a 49 present vote...

I discovered TriFlow I don’t know how many years ago in a bike shop, and have used it ever since

Care to share a few of the top ten stupid things people do that you see in your shop, just to make sure I’m not doing any of them?

You’d be surprised at how badly the salt air can corrode vehicles and other steel if you’re close to the ocean. I used to build art work for peoples beach houses in San Diego area and if it wasn’t coated correctly it would severely rust after a...

Ita funny you post this because ive had my 80 for over 10 years and do take it wheeling and camping and I have never had a part fall off or even come lose or brake. I keep meticulous care of the 80. But for some reason all of a sudden I think I...

Tar will seal out the corrosive elements. Most of your commercial undercoat, is tar with a "trade name". And yeah besides smog, and tires I have never taken any vehicle I've got to a shop. I'm a professional mechanic, employed in the industry...

I do live in San Diego, close to the beach and take the 80 to the beach often and drive roads along the beach as my daily commute. The truck is a CA car and I got it rust free. Sadly, the under carriage is starting to surface rust. Body is still...

Great discussion and great suggestions! I have linseed oil lying around from when I used to finish axe handles. Also like that it is non toxic.

I use linseed oil mixed 50/50 with mineral spirits to seal the deck on my trailer. I apply every year at the beginning of the summer. After I read the above post I went to look at it and the bolts that hold the wood down are surprisingly rust...

WD stands for Water Displacement. While the stuff will displace water and initially protect steel, eventually (in short order) its no better or even worse than using nothing. My experience with it is that it eventually attracts rust. My advice is...

WD40 is terrible at preventing rust. Before my machine shop was heated in the winter it was very troublesome to deal with large temp swings from cold to warm. A couple million lbs of iron doesn't warm up very quick. The cold iron would condense...

I would personally prefer to use a non-toxic, or less toxic thing if I was spraying the whole undercarriage deliberately and not merely spreading some grease around on a truck that's already leaking oil. From what I've heard, Wool Wax and Fluid...
