What’s up Andrew. I actually live in Woodmoor and am a avid garage rat if you guys ever need an extra hand. I just did the head gasket in my 80 and had my head work done down at Ehnes Rink on the south side of town. I didn’t have anything major done to it but I was happy with there service.
Pete

Started putting the water pump back on my 91. I had removed the little skid plate under the belts for access. Afterwards I was installing a new lower radiator to water pump hose and something fell and hit me in the face, it looked like a giant chunk of old crusty grease but it was really heavy and hurt like a SOB. I spent a few minutes cleaning it off and I am now really curious if anyone recognizes this thing. I think it might be an old busted part or something.

That looks like part of a welding clamp.

And first place prize goes to I lean. That is exactly what it is lol. I wonder how long it has been living under there lol. It definitely is before my time when I got the rig 6 years ago lol. Haha I think I am going to use it for a knive hilt....

Now, the big question is, what was welded?

YeaI don't think my 1991 has an alarm. but next time it does it I am trying that. I think it could be something to do with the fusible link thingy. I think I am going to replace it on mine just as a pm. The only other thing I think it could be is the fuel pressure regulator. maybe a short somewhere.
I had two issues on my '97 that sound similar. The first was a couple years ago. Wouldn't start after the 3rd trip of the day, would start after waiting 10-20 minutes. That was corrected by changing the fusible links.
2nd issue was this year, happened once and did not recover. Towed it home and tried to diagnose. Long story shorter - a shop found that the anti-theft starter cutoff relay input was corroded. This is in the cabin, near driver's left knee, behind the fuses. Not an alarm, and I don't know if this is on the '91.

Well I know I didn't leave it there when I welded my 4x4 labs front bumper kit and the truck was never wrecked, so I am guessing it was from the previous owner. He had built a custom mount for the winch that was incorporated into the oem bumper.

While replacing a stripped wheel stud and the shocks I noticed that the rear brake pads were a little thin. Replaced them today. Turns out I was premature. They had at least another hundred miles in them.

Front brakes overhaul. Cheaped out this time with NAPA pads, rotors, and calipers since I replaced these about two years ago with EBC pads and OEM rotors. The old NAPA calipers had seized pistons once again - not sure what’s going on there. Lifted the LSPV arm as high as it could go and now I think I’m getting more brake performance out of the rears.

Of course it sounds like I need new pads in the rear now :bang:

How much was the whole kit?

How much was the whole kit?

No kit here. Unfortunately, I purchased individual components at separate times. Started out with just the rotors and pads which I think was near $180 and then had to buy the calipers after figuring out my old calipers pistons were seized... the new remanned calipers are around $60 each when you exchange in your old calipers.

Well today I cleaned the windows with Windex for the first time in forever. That was disgusting. Also bought a used transmission and transfer case from a not so bad salvaged 97. That sucker was stripped quick. That's really all they had left. Engine and everything else was gone. I was really hoping they had the upper lift gate since mine is rusted and this truck was also black so it would have been an easy replacement.

Planning on having the transmission and transfer case rebuilt and swap them in once I rebuild my engine.

Started the radiator replacement process. I have the grill out and the headlights out. The radiator that is coming out is not connected to anything now. I had to stop yesterday because of a bolt in the center of the battery tray is corroded too much and parts that arrived this morning. Going to cut it out today and finish the job. I also am going to replace the fusible link with a new one. Will post some pics today. Getting the old radiator out is a PITA!

Before the "work from home" instruction was ordered I started to make a list of everything on my rig that causes even the slightest ripple of annoyance. The plan is work through the list when I am grounded so as to reduce the boredom.
Top of the list was stopping my camping gear rattling like mad so I made a set of drawers. Each drawer has a separate compartment for each piece of camping gear.

All nicely laid out for ease of access.

Ball bearing slides with soft close and a built in lock mechanism of sorts.

Covered them with same cheapo carpet stuff from Home Depot as I used on my KISS drawers. Pretty happy with the end result..🙂
