Last time I was turning off the beach in 4x4 I could hear what I thought was the L/H birfield clicking, so today I removed it and it seems fine? I have been using the H/D AVM locking hubs that came with the Marks Adapters free wheeling kit that I installed a few years ago, could it have been these clicking? or perhaps it was the other side and the sound transferred. I have ordered a set of Aisin hubs to go back on.

I don't think it was actually leaking between the diff housing and swivel hub, but I do have new seals and bearings to go back in, if a bit of diff oil did get in there would it make it click?

Been following this.., so I had my upholstery shop start the install this morning. On the rear seats, the LSeat leather was super baggy. I'm talking a 450lb dude losing 200lbs of weight skin sag baggy. He also mentioned that the stitching was bad, not even. He is going to need to build up the foam to get the leather to tighten up.

With that said, I noticed yours is a bit baggy as well. Any other issues that you came across so that other guys on the forum can be aware of?

And where did you source the steering wheel btw? Good job doing this on your own., well done!!


They will stretch and fit tight when left in the sun...mine did....

I have read several accounts here on Mud that they tighten up once it gets hot out. I'll be curious to hear whether yours do.

Mine is a little baggy in some areas and most pics I’ve seen post install of Lseat leather are baggy too. I’ve heard it will tighten up over time, or you can take a steamer to it to shrink it (not sure if this is legit or works). I’m really happy with the way mine turned out, hard to beat for $300.

Also, I found the steering wheel here in the Classifieds section.

Could it be the upper & lower steering knuckle arm bearings ?

Take out the cage and confirm. I had one this year that looked perfect too, until we took it further apart. Crack was on other side of cage. How is motion on it?

Cracks in the birfield cage can cause clicking, but it can also come from the grooves that get worn in the cup. The balls catch as they try to move past that low point. This is why additional grease can quiet the noise, and switching the joints from side to side allows them to ride in a new area on the cup.

This is last month, but we drove from AZ to Banff, Canada and back over a 4 day weekend. We also cut the roof of our truck off and glued on a Campteq. It was the best dumb thing we've ever done.
Since we've had it home we've been sewing in new mosquito netting, putting in new mattress pads, sewed on a rear rain flap (It leaked back there we knew from what the seller and landcruiserphil has mentioned). We sanded and stained all of the wood interior and modified it for our truck, Lizard skinned the interior, seam sealed etc. Too many things to remember. Still have a lot left to do.

When your birfs start to go, you'll get constant clicking any time your vehicle is in motion and you turn your wheel all the way.

Things are going more smoothly now that I’m looking at the correct knock sensor. It looks like someone confused RTV for solder...

Scraped the sensor clean with an x-acto knife, sniped off the female connector, and added a pigtail with my best impression of a lineman splice:

I didn’t have time to test drive but I’ll get her out on the road before week’s end for quick jaunt to see if the code 52 is gone.

10 days after the HG blew in NH my rig has made it to CT, on another AAA flatbed.....

Fortunately she's in great hands, parts are rolling in and the path to Cruiser wellness has begun.

haven't looked at them yet, but the rebuild kit I have has new ones to go in there

I picked up new inner and outer circlips, aisin hubs, wheel bearings and 5 tubs of molly grease today, thanks for the tip on switching sides, ill do that
