What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (85 Viewers)

We used 8020 extruded aluminum. It's a 1.5" x .75" bar with a single T Slot.

I needed a roof rack for Rubithon and am a broke college student so I talked to my friend Scott at Apex Engineering and Design and my boss, Mike Smith, owner of Bump It Offroad, and conviced them to help me with a roof rack. I told Scott the general idea of what I wanted and he designed the whole thing. Mike cut it out and helped me with the rest. Finished and bolted it on today. It turned out great!

It looks like a redesigned Prinsu. The design works, low noise,strong.

I built a roof rack as well and have been thinking about how I can transfer the contour of the roof to a pice of metal so I can cut out an nice a deflector like yours. How did you accomplish this?

Started the weekend early doing a quick scouting trip to Drummond Island MI for a longer trip with a larger family group in August. My youngest daughter and I took the 80 on a two day, one night blast. There are some nice trails there and good scenery. I got in some tough spots and definitely needed the lockers a couple of times on a trail that was normally pretty easy but because of major recent rainfall go really tough. The Cruiser did what it was build for- rip down the expressway, wheel, camp, rip home -without issue. Love it.

Once we had the rack on the roof without the deflector we took a square that can extend and has inches in it and took the distance from the bar to the roof at the angle the bar was sitting. We basically plotted a curve with the center of the bar being 0,0 and measuring points in inch increments in the x and measured down the y. The middle was 5 3/16" to begin I think and the outside is like 7 3/8" if I remember correctly.

It probably worked because of the existing sealant in the hole. I usually use teflon thread tape when I assemble tapered pipe threads. Be very careful to avoid having any hang off the end of the fitting and there won't be any risk of it finding its way into the oil system.

You got me! Went back and pulled the oil switch reinstalled with tephlon tape, didn't want to take a chance!

No cruiser to play with so me and the boy had to settle for the Father-in-laws Willys jeep. The boy loved some of the simple trails we did then said maybe we should the Toyota version....waaaay cooler...

Damn you!! I need to get my life back to that paradise you still roam freely. Your pics make me home sick bad. However, memories of the battalions of thirsty mosquitos on Drummond Island are still very vivid. Rock on Michigan!

Not really too bad. The biggest pain is moving the wet carpet around. I'm hoping the low humidity holds out while it dries. I have a few stains that don't want to come out that I need to deal with. Simple Green didn't work.

Now to decide on some cost effective thermal barrier and another thin layer of jute.
