Not the weekend but...

New radiator for the 92...

View attachment 1402360

Went to put the new radiator in the 92 because I had determined it was leaking. Never in a million years would the original, 25 year old spring clamps fail to hold a tight seal at the inlet at the top of the radiator! Wrong. I had the 3 of the 4 nuts off the fan and leaned against the inlet hose and heard gurgling. I looked and saw bubbles coming out by the tank at the end of the hose. "NO FAWKING WAY!" I squeezed the hose. Saw more bubbles. Pulled the hose and replaced with a cheapo hose clamp, topped off with fluid, rinses off the coolant I spilled and took her for a drive. Stopping periodically to check for leaks. Nothing. $400. Now I have a spare radiator...

I found water in my bottle jack carrier. Fearing I had rust around the rear windows like a fellow mud member I took the rear interior apart.

Was happy to see clean painted metal everywhere. Now to find out where the water came from.

Check your belt moldings around you rear sliders, mine were leaking on both sides, sealed the clips with some fipg until I get my income tax refund and send it to @beno!

I live in the foothills east of sac: consider this a standing invite to any mudder displaced by flooding or evacuation - youre welcome to stay at my place while you get things sorted.
That is some hospitality there! I was just thinking about that today. I have a little space and plenty of carpentry work for anyone that would like to get away for a bit(or forever) in Kentucky; beautiful country for a 1/100th of the cost! Much love to all those folks in Oroville!

Actually, I wouuld like to find someone with a very strong background in carpentry to take over my superintendent position so that I can semi-retire and spend the rest of my life doing what I love... playing around with Land Cruisers (and other old toyotas; mini's, four runners, supras)...I love them all!

Funny story: I just booked flights for my daughter and her friend to go to DC for Spring Break to visit another friend. Flying out of Chicago (about 190 miles each way). My wife said "Is it really saving any money? That's what, $100 in gas each trip to take them and pick them up!" My response, "You are doing Land Cruiser math. The Camry will be about $60 total." Then she started to do the math on the 92 since I bought it new... :worms:

If it didn't involve living in Kentucky... :hillbilly:

Don't knock it til you try it! I'm from Houston( too many people), Spent my 20's in Southern Cali, Moved to Louisville in 95. Haven't regretted it. Beautiful lakes, rivers, mountains and trails. Good bourbon, good people and totally affordable. My mortgage, water, electric and cable comes to $1200 a month. Plenty left over for the cruiser!

I have been on the lookout for an inexpensive spare motor for my LX that I could rebuild at my leisure before eventually needing to swap it in.

Today I found it on CL...for only $700... attached to a '97 LX with lockers :D. It is an east coast truck so has some surface rust underneath, but it is completely stock, 242K, all the bits and pieces of interior trim are there, and it even comes with the original head unit, Lexus car phone, and Lexus first aid kit.

The guy said the engine had a knock and was asking $1K. His mechanic had gotten as far as removing the valve cover and the throttle body and called it quits. I saw the "project status", offered him $700, and he bit. Called AAA for a tow to my work and now I have a spare "one of everything" :). I am psyched!

Here she is !
