pretty sure mine is shot by now. got 276k on the clock. Is this a pretty important piece? Never had a steering stabilizer before on other cars I don't think...

Less vibration is transferred to my steering wheel. But I'm also in '37's. I'll see if it tames some of the off-road manners this next week. Pneumatic tools make this job a breeze. Air hammer with pickle fork popped it right off without hassle.

I have been on the lookout for an inexpensive spare motor for my LX that I could rebuild at my leisure before eventually needing to swap it in.

Today I found it on CL...for only $700... attached to a '97 LX with lockers :D. It is an east coast truck so has some surface rust underneath, but it is completely stock, 242K, all the bits and pieces of interior trim are there, and it even comes with the original head unit, Lexus car phone, and Lexus first aid kit.

The guy said the engine had a knock and was asking $1K. His mechanic had gotten as far as removing the valve cover and the throttle body and called it quits. I saw the "project status", offered him $700, and he bit. Called AAA for a tow to my work and now I have a spare "one of everything" :). I am psyched!

Here she is !

That's crazy!
Almost the exact same thing for me today. Scored a 95 green 80, runs good, interior a bit rough. No title. Guy wanted 1500. Said I would only do 700. He thought about it a couple hours and said ok. I drive it home tomorrow

Needed to modify a 54mm hub socket to use for the rear axle nut because my old modified socket "walked away". Made myself one and going to make a batch for others. Since this is NOT my original design I figured I'd also help out others by making the specs available to all of you so you can modify your own if you need to without second guessing it.

montage song always makes me

Well... my weekend officially starts at noon on Fridays. So far, my weekend sucks. 1FZFE Blown head gasket (didn't overheat - not even a little).

Parts are one thing, but this is my daily driver and I reaaaaaally didn't want to tear it apart while I have the 70 torn apart. Considered taking it to the dealer and getting it done. Then I called. Not going that route. So, the real question now is...

1) Man up, break out the wrenches, order the DVD and the parts, and get dirty.
2) Double man up. Rip the guts out and drop in the 3BT and H55F that's sitting in the unfinished 40 right now.

How many hours should I expect a HG job to take? - Never done one, but not scared to dig in.

Option 3) pick up $1500 corolla on craigslist

years ago I did one on a 93 and really taking my time on the whole job, I had everything buttoned up in a couple weekends...

You can tear it apart in a day by yourself if you're an experienced wrencher. It really isn't that difficult. Would you get the head surfaced? Valve job? Then it is really just time consuming cleaning everything to put it back together. Another full day to reassemble.

Does this sound like an exhaust leak or something worse? No noise under idle. Only under load.

Took the dogs out after work, warm enough now to run with the windows down. Well except for my driver's side rear as it's never worked since I bought it. Two 80 pound dogs fighting over one window in the back prompted me to tear into the dead window when I got back home.

Had no clue what I was doing, but was able to get the motor unseized, cleaned and lubed it back up. Plugged it in and a success it was! Hardest part was just getting it all back together while fighting the glass. A second set of hands would have made it a breeze.

It's now 4x's faster than the rest of my windows. Looks as if I'll be tearing into the others to speed them up next.

I managed to get this code, after replacing the O2 sensors and messing around with the MAF sensor. The engine didn't run right last week. Drove it around for a while and got better. It was running too rich I think and very rough at idle, low RPM at idle too.

Hard to be certain over the internet, but it sounds pretty bad. :( Will it do it at all when you rev it a little? I'd check that and see if it's coming from the top or bottom of the engine. Sounds an awful lot like a rod knock.

Ill dig in to it in the morning. It sounds like an exhaust leak. It doesn't do it at all when idling. I'm taking it to my muffler guy at 8am. Just to rule that out.

Strange coincidence that I was low on oil yesterday and added Delo 15-40. Then this started today.

Went with the family to the mountains. We took bargain-basement 80 on a light trail ride in the Jocassee Gorge area of South Carolina shortly after terminating a contract on a new house. I needed to GTFO and this fit the bill.

She handled great. Slight grinding noise when I turn the steering wheel, but power steering reservoir is full so it's coming from somewhere else. The DS mirror fell out. Plenty of pops and dings have me thinking about castor angle. It was a blast.

The road is Horse Pasture Road and is evidently a sort of back door to Lake Jocassee for hikers, day trippers, or people with kayaks and canoes. It looks like there are some campsites back there as well.

Great trip. Reality starts again tomorrow.
