Are you guys adding the thermozite to the stock padding? or replacing?
The insulation I used isn't as thick as stock, even though it seems to control heat better. Thing is, I sleep in my rig and when crawling around on your knees.. the thicker padding is kindof needed.
Also when I did mine I added a layer of the mylar bubble-wrap insulation available at Lowes/homedepot to the passenger footwell, on top of the jute insulation. That floor board stays room temp now.. finally found a way to keep my lunch cooler for work from heating up on the bottom.
I replaced my 1st and 2nd row jute with thermozite. I will be replacing the jute with thermozite in the rear of the truck as well. Are you guys adding the thermozite to the stock padding? or replacing?

I'm replacing my carpet with vinyl. So mine isn't in addition to the padding on the carpet. I've thought about additional padding but I do t want it cushiony all of the time. I carry egg crate when I sleep in my 80 and lay that down.
I have a nice pad to sleep on, I'm more talking about while moving around in there getting stuff set up. The stock padding seemed to be the perfect balance between non-cushy and dont-have-the-ridges-on-the-floor-permanently-indenting-your-patella.
I also realized I was past due for an oil change, so I did one quickly last night. Since I was running 0w-40 and it needed to be fast (not wait for everything to get warm then drain down), I didn't warm the engine up before.. just drained it.
And the oil filter was basically empty when I removed it. Less than 24hrs since the last time it was started. Wix synthetic filter, which supposedly have a great anti-drainback valve.
So it's apparently time to start figuring out why all of my oil is draining out of the system so quickly. I've read mention of the check valves in the oil squirters sticking open.. seems like a possibility, especially with 290k miles. Makes me wish I knew all of this before I pulled both oil pans for reseal.. I think you could get access to each with the crank/rods in place if the upper pan is off. For now I switched back to Mobil1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w-40 (which was only $25/gallon at oreilly) and hope the extra detergents help with sticking check valves.. and I'm considering adding a fuel pump switch so I can turn it off for a few seconds on cold start to get the oil system primed.
I may also experiment with a toyota small-can filter..
Any ideas? Other than all of the tolerances being pretty loose on a 290k engine which helps the system drain down..

If the anti-drainback valve in the filter was working properly, would it not have prevented the oil from draining back, regardless of engine condition? I'd try a different brand of filter before I headed out on a witch hunt.
Yeah, I hear what you are saying. One thing I noticed when ripping up the carpet is that they don't really cover the whole floor. Only parts. It was pretty interesting. I will be covering the whole floor with the Thermozite. Possibly doubling up in some areas...
Basically, yes. Even if the squirters were letting the oil galleys between them and the head drain the filter shouldn't be empty.. but I've generally trusted wix based on teardowns I've seen online, and perhaps wrongly assumed the synthetic filters from wix would be even higher quality.

So I'm back from my trip to California and thinking of what's next for the cruiser. That's the good news.
My girlfriend who hadn't seen me for the last 45 days didn't skip a beat, spent the night at her house, woke up with her this morning. Started talking about my land cruiser and she said "You've got to decide which is more important to you, me or your silly truck thing".
Well, I'm driving the cruiser and headed nowhere. But at least I'm driving the cruiser.
Need to find a job and a place to crash while I get things back together. Damn that was a great trip.
Cool! that's the only other set of SR8s I've seen on an 80 besides mine. Looks great!View attachment 1311243 Mounts new tires. 37" Cooper STMaxx on SCS SR8 wheels. Had to trim the front bumper an little.. Waiting on a winch bumper from 4x4Labs to finish it off.
forgot to ask...are your SR8s 17's?Nice. I got his Ray10 for my 4runner haha. They make great wheels.
Looks very nice. Who is doing your engine swap?Checked in on the engine swap at the shop. Engine is in, wiring harness done:
