What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (45 Viewers)

I did both front belts on my 80 using Safety Restore. Quality is OEM, and SO nice to have perfect new seatbelts! My driver one was shredded when I bought my 80. Never saw one that bad.
I heard a lot of good things about them so sent mine off about a month ago. Received them back and i couldn't spot any difference in how they operated. Still had the same suspicious grrrr noise every now and then and still don't retract. No work order in the box so no idea what they did. I called and they said they replaced a spring. Also mentioned that i should think about having the webbing replaced - of course they never called me to mention this. They agreed to take them back and rework with new webbing free of charge. Should be ready when i get back from this trip. Their response to my complaint was pretty awesome but i gotta ask why they didn't bother calling me to see if i wanted the webbing replaced when they still had the units. Hopefully a good ending ...

I’m not proud of this but it was necessary for the time being.

This turbo truck lived in South Carolina for 22 years before I bought it drove it to the West Coast. Now I say this because rust is a crazy real issue for non-west coast trucks but I got lucky.

One of the things that eventually needs to be take care of is the roof rack residual rust. The truck is mostly perfect except for the rust on the OEM lame ass roof rack. So f’ing annoying. Everyone has to to deal with this at some level. Three of the legs were fine but passenger front shoes signs of rust under the paint. Boo. I’ll have to deal with that later.

For now I just need to deal with the existing holes where the factory rivnuts are in the roof. Each needs to be dealt with before the rain starts. I took the easy way out for the time being. I just used EXTRA wide button head screws with UV stable rubber washers. The ID of the washers need to go around the outside of the rivnuts because they sit proud of the roof. The flanged stainless bolts need to squeeze the rubber washer to create a positive seal to prevent water intrusion. It’s not super sexy but it absolutely solves the issue until I can take care of the rust at another time in the very distant future 😜

Hey Joey - 2nd the request to add to your site. There are a lot of threads in this fix (including Cdan). The hardware I sourced from Home Depot is looking rough after 2 years. Including appropriate Well nuts would be very useful for those of us whose nutserts have failed. If you are too busy (I saw your recent newletter) can you identify the washers that you used? Thanks!

Broke the wife's camper on a  trail. Nearly took the rear bumper off and smooshed both leveling jacks. I see an offroad bumper build and lift kit in the near future.

I’m doing the same thing, diodes arrive tomorrow. I’ve never soldered but we’ll see how it goes.
Me either, it wasn't that hard after watching a few youtube videos. I just hope my bad soldering isn't the reason it's still not working. haven't had time to look into it again. Maybe over the weekend.

Good Luck!

Wrapped up a big tour of Montana's Yaak country. Caught some sweet fish, saw almost no other humans, recon'ed a bunch of great dispersed camping sites and avoided any Griz encounters despite seeing a huge scat full of seeds on a rock bar in the river. We got a whole night of hard, steady rain which left everything smelling incredible and fresh. Still pretty amazed I get to live here.

My quick 4 day 750 mile trip turned out to be closer to 1200 miles total by the time I got home yesterday, with almost 800 miles offroad. But it was a good one.

I guess the thousands of high speed offroad miles over the years was finally too much for the control box bracket on my ComeUp winch. The bracket broke so it got zip tied to the bumper until I can relocate it. Probably going to move it under the hood.

Woohoo, the ferry is running again finally.

ready tomorrow
How are those attached? Existing nutserts or something else?

Academic question, mine didn't come with a roof rack.

Took a drive to Gateway Colorado for lunch and some exploring. Looking for back country air strips.

A lot of progress has been made on my Air to Water intercooler system.

The expansion tank / Meth tank holds about 3.5 gallons of fluid and uses up all the available space where the ABS pump was back to the firewall. There is still enough room to get my arm in to change the oil filter though. I had an -4AN bung welded in and capped off for future Meth Injection use. The Inlet/outlets are all -10AN.

The original plan was to place the intercooler on top of the valve cover with simple short end tanks made in line with turbo outlet and intake manifold, but hood clearance became an issue. I am sure this could still work if you are using a smaller IC core. The Garrtet core I am using is good for 750hp, so it’s not small.

The new plan was to put it in front of the turbo between the York and valve cover with some more complex end tanks. To accomplish this, the York bracket needed to be cut and dropped 1.5” and a new Heater bypass tube had to be made to take advantage of that created space.

I am definitely taking advantage of every last ounce of space under this hood, but I am really happy with how this is coming together. I still need to run the fluid lines and wire up the pump and heat exchanger fan that is mounted in front of the condenser on the passenger side.

Thanks. The diodes arrived yesterday but I won’t have time until this weekend to get to this. Hopefully it works.
