I finally got the spare tire down WITHOUT a cutting torch and using the tool intended for the job after 2 weeks of spraying penetrating oil. PB is way better than the WD40 penetrating, (not the standard stuff). Let the air out of the tire, used a jack to get the rim off of the hanger and suddenly it broke loose. Now I have to get a 31x10.50 spare. And it looks like the aftermarket trailer hitch on my wife's 4runner, which she doesn't use, (the hitch, not the car) might fit on the cruiser. good day today.

A few little projects! Cleaned up and re-painted the 4WD badge and put a fresh coat of wax over thirsty 37 year old paint to preserve what's left. Like @HemiAlex says, it's fun to keep rusty trucks shining!
FYI, for the badge I used Testors "Dark Blue" enamel and Rustoleum clear to protect it.

Yep...the body shop asked if I wanted to save the Burt tag since it’s really pitted and worn. The answer was ABSOLUTELY! The whole family calls the rig Burt.My 60 originally came from BURT toyota as well

Changed out the 5w-30 winter engine oil for 15w-40 summer engine oil, added one quart of Lucas oil conditioner. Running nice, although the air temp. this A.M. was 10 degrees Fahrenheit! Winter is still blasting off and on here.

On a good note got everything back together after doing a valve adjustment and throttle body clean. Replaced all the coolant hoses to the manifold and today set the idle and timing. Had to go in 1 1/4 turns on the idle screw to get back to 650, she was dirty. Timing was off 4 degrees retarded, bang on now. She's really purring nice, if only all this snow would melt!!!!

Damn thing was like trying to stuff a mad cat into a box...nailed it about the 5th attempt. Had to keep trimming out most of the stock rubber mat/jute material to get the “new” pedal bucket to sit right....and the bottle jack and 2x4 to massage a couple bolts holes to line up. Looks factory now.
(In 1986, the dude in japan prob had the spot welder on full blast, like to 11, most of the fj60 pedal bucket welds had cat claw metal shards splashing off them, nothing like a little covid hand sanitizer to find EVERY nick on your hands)
Got around to installing my 1/2 decent dash and my OEM working radio.

For those wondering what that red switch is in the dash blank.
It is the switch that enables the AUX plug underneath it. This is connected to a FM modulator hidden behind the glovebox that I can tune my radio to 89.1 allowing me to use my phone or my Sat radio to listen to music instead of a local station. Great for those long drives. It is connected through the antenna plug and does a true bypass of the system.
Tested and works great. Little modern touch in my very non modern vehicle.
Are you going to hinge the top or will this just lift out?
I do like the idea of the shelf. assuming looking at this it is movable.
How easy is this to remove is you need to to work etc. and how do you access the rear washer bag (or did you just drop it)?
Just wondering as I am looking at ideas for my own rear platform.
