This is definitely the truest statement. I gutted mine, it spun freely but had a section where the resistance increased a bit, pulled it apart again to try and diagnose and couldn't. Put back together, section still there but it spun so I installed. Started truck up and 30 minutes later she seized and detonated.

Do yourself the favor and get the pulley. Not saying that yours wont last but for piece of mind that is one less thing to have to worry about possibly going wrong.

Tell me about it. It seized up as I was driving on the highway. Another MUD guy that I had actually just met the night before came out to give me a hand. He brought his spare smog pump and a belt and we installed it right then and there. It was especially fun since I have headers! I had recently cut my fan shroud in half though and that made things WAY easier. The PO did the desmog and I guess they just didn't feel like de-vaning the pump... We'll see what happens with this pulley. Hopefully he gets back to me.

Not sure about a write up per sae, but a few people have pulled them apart and re-installed them. I pulled mine with initially that intention. However I too had a small area with "extra resistance". It just wasn't worth the risk to me to put it back in there and wait for it to go wrong again. If you can I would wait for the pulley. Plus its easier to put back in, you will actually have room for your hands and fingers to complete the job, what a novelty!
 
After five plus years, I had to replace my Redtop. She almost made it to six years. I went to NTB to replace the Redtop with an Interstate. The clerk said that he could fix me right up. I went ahead and coughed up the $15.00 for the install just so I wouldn't have to bring my old one back to the store; was feeling lazy. I told the clerk that I had an aftermarket tray and battery holder so we went out to have a look and he said "hmmm". "Hmmm"? He went to the back and came back and said that he didn't have an Interstate that fit my aftermarket tray. So I had to go back with another Redtop. Years ago Redtops were the Bees knees but their quality has steadily deteriorated over these last few years. Wish me luck:bang:

I would probably order the Interstate and then dump the Redtop on eBay or CL. Seen way to many horror stories as of late for Optima that will ever make me want to go to them.

Ordered and installed a new muffler for my 88 Fj62 Bridget.
My old one was shot after 30 years. Holes in it everywhere.

Look at that for you dual battery setup. How you have your setup now is how I setup all of mine, but I add this into it.
I have run this in anything from a LR3 to a FJ60 (putting one in mine this winter)
The Battery terminal, and solenoid are garbage, But the controller is a less expensive version of the National Luna kit and works great.
Nice thing with this is you can see your voltage, keeps both battery's happy and isolated and you can jump start your main battery if needed.
 
Chopped my fan shroud. Powered by pumpkin. A variety of other things done in the last few days as well but some of it I'm keeping to myself and only a lucky few until I feel better about spilling the beans.

The mod is listed in the stickys. Some go the full route with sheet metal plates and some don't. I may be of the "don't" crowd. Will see how it seats once I get it there.
