Installed a set of seat back replacements from Plaidwagon - https://www.plaidwagon.co/. When I ordered, I contacted Kyle about getting a set to match my tan interior. Since it was a color he had been considering, he whipped them up and they...
Toyota oil filter (my son's friend is a Toyota tech and gets them for me for $5.00) and Kirkland Signature synthetic 5W-30 (highly rated on Project Farm).
OK, So we I spent a lot of hours, and money fixing this truck up to be what we want. Any now we can drive it around, which mean we will be parking it all over. It gets attention (which is awesome and I love when people want to talk about it)...
Talking to my kid a little more this afternoon… he said when he tried to restart it it cranked very slowly. The shop is saying it is completely seized up. Those two statements don’t seem to agree with each other. Is there a scenario where it...
Do not believe the shop. Ask your son to do a video of cranking (check battery voltage first). It may have a boken timing belt. Engines won't seize for nothing. Ask your son to inspect oil and coolant levels.
You do not know the condition of...
A totally seized motor usually happens after plenty of warning signs and/or significant abuse or massive oil leak. A 2UZ suddenly starting slow and then "seizing completely" seems... unlikely.
Get a second opinion or better yet, get it back...
So they reported it’s completely seized up, and then said it may be fixed w a timing belt job?
Did they charge for that professional diagnosis? Or they had a card reader telling your fortunes?
I say go ahead and get the 2nd opinion, don't say anything about being at another shop unless they took it apart. Just have your son tell them it stalled and won't start again let them figure it out and hopefully give you a detailed diagnosis.Two...
I like the transfer case in neutral trick!
I have my ignition fuse made easy to pull out with a little tape, you could even put a known bad fuse in there as a dummy;).
Nothing is fool proof, but ONE of the things I use is a Flaming River battery cutoff from the battery to the starter. This particular one has a padlock to lock the on/off. Not fool proof…and one of the things I use.
My neighbour used to have a BJ60, and told me stories about it sometimes.
He told me he once left his BJ60 overnight at a motel, and Thieves broke in, and got it started. But couldn’t get it to move because he left the the transfer case in...
Finally added this 1971 FJ55 to the collection. Bone stock had been used as a snow plow. Runs and drives. Plan is disc brake conversion get the AC working and clean up. Really excited to get started on this one
Another bump for doing it the right way as stated by everyone above. If you just cover it up, you eventually end up with this underneath:
More Pictures.
Have you looked into an add a leaf? if you just want to level it out. If there is a shop that could custom built a set of springs for you I would go that route.
FWIW, the HIC (Hot Idle Compensator) valve does make a difference, though I'm not sure how much. Function is to bleed filtered air into the intake when ambient air/temp is hot to lean out the mix. Hot gas causes the mix to richen.
I've never...
