All I got to do was look at it. We keep getting storms and cold weather which makes working on it harder. I should be out enjoying driving it in the snow. Soon.

Sometimes you can simply look at a Land Cruiser and tell it was a product of a "quality build" and then there are times when you can tell that "quality" was not in the builders vocabulary. This is an example of the screws that were used on my rear taillight assembly. (actually this is one of the better ones, the rest had to be drilled out).

Super shoddy right there. Some straight up Half-axx'd work.

It actually makes the "rebuild" somewhat straight forward. You start with the assumption that everything was done incorrectly or at a minimum done poorly. Nothing that time, talent and $ can't overcome.

It's good that my guy enjoys electrical stuff. :)

That wiring is actually exceptionally tidy by DIY stereo install standards. No DSPO of my vehicles ever knew about anything as high tech as heatshrink :bang: Not using the factory radio mount cartridge thing is quite unforgivable though, the 70 series has to be one of the easiest vehicles in the world to mount a new radio in using that.

One thing to watch for while doing a stereo install is that sometimes Toyota hides a little amp down the side or somewhere. The stock wiring to the rear speakers in my LJ71 changed colours 3 times between the head unit & the rear speakers which caused a bit of confusion when I first went to wire in a new stereo :hmm:

Cheers
Clint

To be clear the radio was installed by the previous owner. I don't know if he installed it personally or had the builder install the unit. The shop pulled the radio in an effort to track down a slow battery drain over time.
As with many items on the Ute the backup camera associated with the head unit was wired improperly and didn't work. That's being corrected.

THAT is BADASS.:rimshot:

I would absolutely do it as a wrap. We had this custom wrap done about a year ago. I'd do the hood as well.

Light at the end of the tunnel .......
Although I don't understand a fraction of the features, Rob's got it working. My last radio was a FM/AM/ Cassette which is more my style. :)

Did you replace speakers as well? I did my stereo a little while back only to realize that the speakers are trashed. They seem to be a little more of a pain to deal with.

Speakers are actually good and I plan to add another pair. Should be enough to drown out the Diesel engine. :)

Since you are on the topic of speakers....
I purchased a set of speakers to replace the 1993 factory speakers and wasn't sure how to access them.
How do you access the 4" speakers inside the lower metal dash panel ?

That’s a very good question! I looked quickly and didn’t see anything obvious, but I also didn’t work on it too long. I am gonna dig into that project a little more after I get a few mechanical issues resolved.
