There seems to be a growing interest in Toyota Ute's (or pickups if you wish) in the U.S. I wonder how many are already in the U.S. (an informal poll if you will) and yes I realize that not all truck owners are on 'MUD. The numbers should include "builds" that are nearing completion.

1985 HJ75 ute. Lhd swap/12HT swap/rust work done(hopefully).

Well, I feel shadowed buy the amazing builds so many of you generate. I have long wanted a new body style 79, took a bit but I have acquired several 2020 HZJ79 bodies. I am using a 1997 FZJ80 chassis which I stretched with help from C2D. What an amazing dude! 13.5" stretch complete, extra perches removed, lift installed and tidying up before the heart transplant. I have chosen the R2.8 Cummins backed by an NV4500 and an FJ60 T-case from Georg. I'm using 255/85R16 Toyo MTs which are 33.5" tall, with stock gearing I can remain in the peak economy and entry performance at 68MPH. Hope she's a mileage monster? We shall see.

Quick progress on the frame! Can't wait to see some more of it.

Not much to figure out after sliding around on that gloriously clean floor of yours. I did do a couple things different; 1) I mounted the flitch plate on the inside to leave the exterior of the chassis as though it hasn't been touched. 2) While the body lines are accurate as per my visit to your shop, the assembly is higher in the front in anticipation of the R2.8, NV4500, ARB and Warn 10S. Did I do it right? No one knows, certainly not me. I had so many questions I wanted to call on you for but in the end pride wins out and I went strong into the unknown. What am I if not a product of my mistakes????? Thank you for all your help, took most of the thinking out of this.

Off to a good start but surely there are more. :)
I know of at least 20 that are not on MUD, if it wasn't for the stupid chicken tax there would be way more. Here are a couple of the more complete ones hanging out at my place (green one is a Ute, just not the Toyota variety!):

I assumed there were others scattered across the country and owned by folks that aren't active on 'MUD.

2009 single cab on 80 frame.

1HDFT/H151/HF1A on factory locked axles.

Waiting on fuel tanks from Canada to really get moving on the build.

I still feel like we're missing some 75 Series Ute's.

My 75 won’t be in the country for another year or two. I had planned to ship it over right after I bought it but we are having too much fun with it in the desert.

1998 75 series ute body on 80 series chassis. 5.9 Cummins under the hood.
I’m still trucking along on the build. Im in cahoots with @bottombracket waiting on our big parts order to get here. Plenty of other stuff to keep me going until then. Hoping for a September unveiling.

I have this 75 sitting in the pasture , collecting some more parts for it and trying to make up my mind on engine and trans before I rip it completely apart

To me I prefer the 75 with removable top over the 79 , if the 79 was a crew cab it might be different ;-)

Since this is a Toyota forum, are we legally allowed to talk about that G wagon Ute, @Eco 45 ???

Cause I wanna hear all about it! Those are the rarest of the rare, no?
