It looks like luck isn't in my favor for this situation. I have the H41 that is pre H42 transmission, often cited as the "4 speed F transmission" or the "1973 fj55 4 speed".
It will require more work, but I'm thinking I might be able to buy a later style h42/h41 transmission cover, exchange the internal shifting forks over, and drill new holes to fit the patter on the "ealry style" 4-speed. The hole allginment for the bolts do not appear to be equal between the ealry and later style top covers. I won't be able to really compare until I get one hands on.
So sad, I really wanted to be able to keep my column shift but this early style h41 has added another roadblock in the process
