Been kicking around the idea of selling hard top and just going with soft top. I don't have a place to store it and it would cost me $100 a month for storage. Seems like the soft top is everyones choice anyway? Wanted to get the boards thoughts. Have not purchased the bows or top yet.

You will probably never be able to buy one as cheap as you sell that one, it always ends up that way. I would take it apart and store it under the bed before I sold it.

When I bought my '40, it did not have a top, so I bought a soft top for it.
I love it. Easy access to the bed of the truck as the sides and back have zippers. Stays completely dry during rain or snow ( I have treated the canvas)

. Comes off in about 10 minutes. Simple to store. It does flap and snap a bit on the highway, but with all of the other noise, I hardly notice it anymore.

I'll add that I took my top off for the first time this summer. I ended up using that time to disassembly my hard top, treat some surface rust in the joints, prime, paint all the places where there was factory primer. Then assembled the top with new seals. Then at the end of the summer re-installed the top and I bet I never remove it again. I just like a 40 with the hardtop in place. Part of its character. But I know it is all personal preference.

If your top will fit my '70 I will be only to happy to buy it from you.

What would a top that would rate 8.5 of 10 and ambulance doors go for? I'm leaning toward buying, powder coating bows and going with the Bimini top from trollhole for a summer and see how that does. And keeping hard top

Imho keep the hardtop... if ever... you still have it

They come apart ... I had a hefty 64' top in my basement that moved to three different houses lol

I have a 74' sooo it would have taken some work to make work therefor I sold it to fund other family things...

That said I love my FST :)

But would have loved to keep a hardtop for when I wanted it

I say keep the top as well. It goes directly with your vehicle. They were born together :)

The top comes completely apart, and the fiberglass roof, itself, leans-up easily within a hallway.
Simply use a towel or similar to protect the wall - and the roof. You'll learn to walk around it.
I assure you :)

The rest of the parts (the sides, the ambi doors, etc) can all be stacked, neatly together,
within a closet, with protection towels in between each, and you'll learn to live-on & around
them. But if you do keep them & store them, protect them against unwanted moisture.
That's for sure.

As far as a soft top - just get a much less expensive Best Top until you can one day afford an
OEM replica type. The Best Top will give you a greater sense of utility as well, over that of the
OEM with bows. ... How it looks, only YOU will care.

Keep your hard top. Like said above u will regret it. I have run a soft top for over 30 years. I sold two hard tops over the years and i regretted it for years ,
I now have a decent hardtop it has been on my rig twice in the last 15 years. I still never install it but man it sure makes me happy to see it in my garage when I go out there. I love the look of the 40 series with hard top on , that being said I prefer the not so top heavy feel of the soft top and the ease of removal. But I still won't sell my hardtop. Keep it find a way. U might not like the soft top. Soft tops also take some getting used to as well, Only reason it seems so many people are running soft tops is because either their hard tops rusted to bits or like u they thought it was a good idea to sell it. Now a days it's hard to find a decent hard top.

Don't sell it. Find a way to keep.

keep the hard top
especially if you live someplace with cold wind and snow
i have had both before
im probally going to buy a TEQ top from Abe in the future but im not selling my hard top

@Rat Rod Rusty that pic is awesome, looks to be near the Catamount Res.

Hey Grish, keep the top, or NEVER move. You can suck it up and store it on your vehicle for free last I checked.

Hot in a TX summer?...AF no doubt. I don't think a soft top will solve that problem, even a bikini, it's just hot. You'll be able to work something out that lets you keep it. I used to ride with the doors off and top on when I was in a similar situation.

Thanks...taken in Rocky Mountain national park, estes park colorado

Personally I wouldn't sell the hard top. They are getting harder to find. That being said most of the people buying tops from me sell theirs. As far as value. I don't know. I saw a many soft top 40s go across the chopping block for some pretty good premiums.
