reading the comments is hilarious...

Toyota is not trying to replace the 200 series... they only sold 3,711 2021's which was one of the best years for it.

Toyota plans for LC200 buyers to move to the LX600, thats why they have the "Overland" specs for it.

This one they are targeting to sell as much as the 4Runner/Year at least -> 100,000 units/year

Maybe if the J250 is successful which I'm sure it will be in the USA, the 300 or its replacement can come back as a low volume Halo truck (it's already engineered for it)..
Hell Maybe they will bring over the 70 series since it is updated now with all the latest Safety features (total Wishful thinking on my part..)

Hybrid 4 banger is a deal breaker for me.

Even if it had a solid front axle, triple locked, poverty pack, and roof mounted belt fed weapon, I couldn't get past the engine. I've had my 100 for 20 years and my 200 for 13. I buy to keep, and that power train has me skeptical of longevity.

The new 70 series is a thing of beauty. Hopefully it’ll bring down the cost of the last Gen 76 series. Only 15ish more years until those are importable.

I am going to leave it up to ARB to sell this Prado to me. In its current form I’m unimpressed.

I was never giving up the 200 anyway. I’d rather build a bigger garage than sell another (genuine) LC.

Luckily this isn’t a genuine LC. Just another disposable vehicle. At this point I’d rather drive the current sequoia.

On the other hand, this gives me a reason to make a really interesting (bad) decision and just get a supra. They’ll probably have the same ground clearance.

I like it. Cute lil 4banger turbo hybrid. Enough techs to have fun on the road and especially outdoors. Sounds capable to me.

I’d get one and add the lx600 and why not add a clean 80 as well. As soon as I win the lotto.

My opinion as a new to me 200 series owner:
•The new LC 250 isn’t meant to replace what we’ve come to know as the LC.
•Toyota is going after quantity rather than class or prestige.
•Toyota likely plans for many customers to make this a parts counter build while signing the paperwork on day one. They sell the vehicle, sell the accessories for the vehicle, and the service department makes money for installing the parts.
•The ride height was intentionally left low to sell TRD branded lift kits for those who don’t care about MPG, see above bullet point.
•I wouldn’t be one bit surprised to see a TRD Pro model for the ‘25 model year as a follow up to the first editions. TRD Pro gets 3.4 v6tt with increased ride height and suspension travel. Think Bronco Raptor but not as aggressive. They will need a halo suv and what better way to keep excitement than power and suspension.

What baffles me though:
•Where will the 4R fit in?
•Why not the 4R get the turbo 4 cyl., LC get the v6tt, the GX the v6tt with optional hybrid at lower power levels than the Sequoia and the LX600 get the v6tt hybrid as standard with higher output than the Sequoia?
•I can’t be the only one who doesn’t want the added weight or complexity of the hybrid system for a vehicle designed as an off-roader.
•That battery and raised floor of the cargo area sure eats up a lot of room that off-roaders could use for storage of useful equipment. Again see above bullet point.

I hope this means a more aggressive and fun 4Runner. There were rumors of the LC being a Bronco competitor and that obviously didn't happen. If the 4R competes with the Bronco or Wrangler lets hope it comes with 2 and 4 door options, non-hybrid powertrains, pop-top, removable doors, fitment for larger tires, front locker, vinyl flooring, etc etc.

Yeah, it actually is a huge improvement over the outgoing Prado and extremely unfair to campare to a 200… Australians are actually very positive on it for that same reason, no one is comparing it to the 300 over there…
If anyone with a 200 in the US had an itch to buy something, the overtrail GX550 is the way to go!

The Aussies don't have to compare it to the 300 because they have access to both. They have access to a 70 series as well. We can only compare it to what we know.

I like it. Round headlights give me a Hummer H3 vibe 👎 , I like the rectangular ones though 👍 Rear locker and front swaybar disconnect are swell features. I also like that it's narrower than the 200/300. Better size for my use case. I wonder what the cargo length is with the seats folded up?

Did they actually publish or release anything around this? I would be very interested in an Overtrail or equivalent trim LX6.

we should also get a GR (type) version as well, once demand evens out.. Right now they are globally contained on production capacity.

I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. Frustrated with the 4-banger and a few other things but, again, I don’t hate it. It certainly will not feel like a bank vault on wheels as my 200 does. But Toyota had to change their game since the 200 didn’t sell well here. Rare is it that I like new vehicles—usually takes a few years to tell if I will like one or not (let other people figure out what the weak points are). I’m not one to say what can and can’t be an LC since that name applies to a variety of different vehicles going back to 1951.

Overall, give me a reliable, durable, and long-serving vehicle and I’ll be happy—time will tell if this fits in that category. Oh—and get rid of the screens! Thanks. A USB port is all that I’d ask for, and I’d still be happy without one.

But I end with this—I really enjoyed driving my 200 to work this morning…even more than usual.

I was interested until I saw that it only comes with the T4 and a 6000# tow rating. The TTV6 should have at least been an option. GX550 it is for me, it looks better too.

Still curious to see what the "Overtrail" LX600 looks like. Dissent's LX600 build is probably a good indication of where they may go with it.

yes.... new fj cruiser
it as much of a landcruiser as the new broncos are broncos
Agreed. It's the Bronco Sport of Land Cruisers, except it has weird angular GMC fenders (Somehow the GX550 pulls this off better IMO). Lots of body plastic. At the end of the day, Toyota is here to make money; the last thing they're going to do is cater to the whims of hardcore enthusiasts over the opportunity to cast a wider net for more sales.

it's narrower than the 200/300
Hopefully they're not marketing it that way. It's only 0.05" narrower. A lot of that is wheel offset and fenders, so the interior is going to be a much more drastic difference than the 200 series.

Land Cruiser 200 Dimensions:
Length 194.90 in; Width 78.00 in; Height 74.00 in; Wheelbase 112.20 in

Land Cruiser 250 Dimensions:
Length 193.90 in; Width 77.95 in; Height 73.62 in; Wheelbase 112.20 in

If they bring eKDSS to the LX, I'm sold.

My dream on the LX6 Overtrail would be eKDSS and F/R lockers from the GR300.

This is what I expected the new 4runner would be, odd to see it with the LC name. Toyota is clearly mixing up their truck/SUV lineup, probably to get to a more unified state. I don't hate what they are doing here with the more "utilitarian" focused LC, though the 4 popper is kind of a bummer. Seems like they are trying to move the luxury aspects out of the Toyota brand to differentiate Lexus more. Honestly, it was always weird that in the 200 series the Toyota and Lexus had effectively the same features at the same price. In my mind it makes sense they are separating it out more with the LC 250 targeting off-road and the 300 series LX keeping the luxury do-anything crowd. Seeing that the First Edition LC is limited to "only" 5000 units says that they are expecting to move way more of these than any years of the combined 200 series models.

Personally, having moved up through Jeeps to FJs to Taco to GX to finally LX I get the feelings on both sides. I'm just glad we still have an option for the overbuilt 300 series here in the states. If they end up doing an Overtrail version of the LX that would be even more awesome.

Last point, Toyota still can't keep up with 300 series demand so adding another model to the states would just have made things worse. Currently it's a 1-2 year waitlist on the LX. I can't imagine what that would turn into if all the LC badge enthusiasts suddenly got the "true" 300 series here in the states.

It makes a pretty good lineup between the lc250.and gx550. Everyone gets a lot of options

Prius, Highlander hybrid and Camry hybrid are all in the top 20 highest mileage vehicles on the road today, right along with the Land Cruiser, Sequoia, 4runner and Tacoma. RX450h is right outside the top 20. Safe to say Toyota has hybrid reliability pretty well sorted after 25 years of practice. Lots and lots of examples of 300k+ Priuses (Preii?) on the original battery pack.

Of course, being a brand new powertrain, nobody knows for certain. But I wouldn't let the word "hybrid" make you skeptical of longevity.

Roof mounted 50 cal would be pretty sweet though :hillbilly:

One of the funniest posts I’ve read in a while. And from another San Antonio guy.

That's great to read, but I'd be curious to know the number of those 300k+ miles Priuses as a percentage of the total model sales, vs the same thing for the Toyota V8 models.

I'd guess there are a hundred Priuses sold for every LC, so having a few of them reach high mileage may not necessarily be the achievement it seems to be.

Another factor I'm interested in is how the vehicles are used most frequently. My gut tells me the big V8s are most often found pounding away highway miles, while the Priuses are more likely to be city dwellers, which seems like a harder life, and bodes well for the Prius reliability aspect.

And the battery tech is old, nmh
