Wife wanted to do something together today.

I have been doing some stuff out of pallet wood if that counts. Mostly accent walls. I plan on doing a head and foot board for a friend when I find the time. I would love to have cheap easy access to some rough stuff to do some things.

Nice to see a post from you Dan, and looks like all is well.

Our local sawmill has a bandsaw for that.

I could use one of those!!!

Any idea what one of those slabs are worth?

Smart a$$ answer - a lot. I've got a hobbyist mill with a 32" capacity. I bought it simply to process dead trees for myself rather than let them rot. I don't get the whole live edge thing but it's hot right now. Been watching a few YouTube vids and guys are getting $6/board foot and up. A big premium for extra wide slabs like that. If those slabs are 2" thick and 50 square feet that's 100 board feet plus the extra width premium.

There's a guy in Minnesota that mentioned for a run of the mill yard tree slab he gets $300. I guess I need to start sawing slabs but I can only do 32".

BTW I was riding the 4 wheeler around the neighbor's property and stumbled on an oak where the trunk is ale least 5' diameter. That tree had to be around when George Washington was. Those slabs would be amazing.

Depending on species, thickness, and total board feet - as Prairie states - a LOT. Many of them are over $20 a board foot for things like English Elm, Cocobolo, or such.

English Elm Burl - 10/4 thick - 129" long by 40" wide max. - 80.63 bf - 382.97 lbs - $22/bf - $1773.75

I do a little milling with my Stihl 660. You can purchase ripping/milling chains. The cutting edge is set to around 10 degrees.
