Yesterday, the 72 was delivered to my garage. Its space has been deemed off limits to the 3 small people that share my house with me until we can figure out a cover. I couldnt resist installing a few choice pieces so visitors would not confuse it with a jeep. I am undecided on installing the engine side of the AC or wiring harness first.

I would do engine side first. I had bought a car cover from carcovers.com. It fit nicely. They have to make it after you order it. 1977 Toyota Fj40 Suv Covers | Guaranteed Fit | CarCovers.com

Thanks, White Stripe.

This morning I was able to get the engine side of the AC mocked up. Have to do a little more trimming to clear the radiator shroud.

The kit leaves alot to be desired and uses standard hardware. I am going to be replacing with JIS. I also have to work out belt routing and alignment as the compressor and alternator bracket is close but not great.

We spent a few hours yesterday chasing down some parts to finish the engine compartment. The power steering lines are finished, still have to figure out where to mount a cooler now that the AC componants are taking up valuble space.

This morning was spent populating the dash and a few other odds and ends. I ended up using bolts instead of the screws provided with the lower dash pad. Between Toyota and @RAGINGMATT , all of the switches are new or rebuilt. Using the file around the new paint is nerve racking.

I just put those drain tubes in my 40 last night, I'll be the first to tell you they go in a lot easier without the rest to the rig being put together. Those grommets were a pain.

Ive been trying to work the plan so I dont have to dissassmble anything to do an install. Some of the areas in this rig were incomplete so I am working off of pics or my dad's '69.

For the first time since I've owned my 40 the firewall is closed in, all the holes are filled, all the grommets are in place, and the 2 cowl drain tubes are installed! No more cold breeze blowing from under the dash in the mornings!

Is the difference noticeable?

I don't know yet, it is still sitting in the garage, I'm installing a new clutch master and slave, and putting longer shackles on the rear. Until I get those done it is going to stay parked.

I only have about 2 seconds of clutch right now when the pedal is pushed to the floor, after that the clutch grabs and it starts doing whatever it wants.

It’s been a little while since my last post. I have been busy with the kids and unsuccessfully trying to make it into the woods. We have gotten a lot of rain, but I was able to take the pup out for a few hunts. Hopefully everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

This morning we installed the upper dash pad and ordered the belts to get the AC compressor wrapped up. Jim C carb was installed a few weeks ago.
