I had the 62 rear end and wanted to use the ebrake since it was there and this was how I did it. I have learned alot based on the pics I have seen here so I try to return the favor. Cheers

tilt column

I am gearing up to do the power steering conversion. I am going with the 7511 Saginaw box, and a Saginaw pump. I have heard some people putting in a tilt column, maybe GM? Anyone heard about this modification?

More Questions to come?

Waiting on the backordered saginaw pump:frown:. Seems like everyone has ordered them and the remanefacturing companies don't have any cores to rebuild. I guess that it is good because I have been swamped with this thing they call "work"! Anyone heard of this blight before?

I had some good momentum, but seems like it has dissapated for now! I have tried Napa, Pep Boys, and now Summit and noone seems to have the part.

I should start to do my doors. I remember some threads about rebuilding the hinges of the doors. I guess I need to refocus the energy towards a different coarse for now.

Falling behind!

I am getting all sorts of things in the mail! I just got these KILLa Scuff plates from bobm, but I can only get one to fit cause my doors are all of kilter:frown:.

No worries I was planning on doing the doors- from the hinges to new latches (bear claw hoping I can get the locks to work as well), sand blasting to new felts and rubber. Then I can re-aline and access those scuff plates.

I have been waiting for 15 years to get power steering. And now I just got from Orange45 a Saginaw pump, pulley, cap, and bracket. I am waiting on a killa score from Gonzo55- scout steering box!

I am a bit intimidated, wait a lot intimidated, on how to get this done! I want to get something of a mix between pighead, Gonzo, and lil John. Oh to dream!;p

You'll get there, just focus on one thing. The power steering is a straight forward project. While you're waiting for parts, do the research, it all works out. Get yer Done!!

bit by bit

Trying to get everything together and then begin the hands on part of the project. Just got a killer scout box! Thanks Gonzo55
I ordered a pitman arm and some shock hoops from Luke at 4x4labs, thanks npulver for the suggestion. Also got some plating for the hoops and box to rest on.:p

I am trying to get some ideas on the power steering pump bracket that I got from Orange45 and I don't see how it attaches. Anyone got a picture of how this thing goes on?

IIUC, you back the bolts out of the drivers side front motor mount brac on block and slip the Bill Dorey onto them. there are likely a couple of other shared bolts for tensioner(waterpump area) and whatnot. check in the 40-55 section at the top of the main page for install threads...

The time has finally come.

Did a route in Zion called Moonlight Buttress and came home with some sort of injury in my hip:confused: that rendered me gimpy. Better now and have been waiting a long time to get going on this. I have now made the first step.

I am moving the box around and trying to figure out how this thing is going to fit. It seems as though for me to use the plates that will sandwich the frame, I will have to move the engine mount to be able to use the inside plate. I know that some have said that the did not have to do anything to the engine mount, but did you have a plate on the inside? I am using some plates that 4x4labs made for me.

Pighead, I saw somewhere a picture of your inside rail, but I can't seem to find it.

As I am lining this box up should the tie rod end of the pitman arm be facing straight forward or is the head of it angled in under the frame. If it is rotated in under the axle how far should I have it angeled? Question make sense...?

It also looks like the sleeves that they gave me are tooo long.:hhmm:

I have hollered out to the guys at 4x4labs but ya'll know that that can take some time getting back. Anyone got some suggestions in the meantime.

Xtiaan,

My Opinion: If the inside fish plate is a problem, either cut it down or don't use it. The DOM tubing will be plenty, since you won't be able to collapse or crack the frame with the tubing welded in.

Also, the tubing is too long, you will have to cut it. You want it flush with the fish plate or frame.

Glad you're feeling better and good to have you back at it.

You did? I don't recall posting pics of my inside frame rail...let me drop everything and run outside to take some for you.
i think my pitman points straight ahead...

I was just thinking about this and it would be a good idea to put in a brace, like pighead and some others have. It would help keep the frame from flexing and cracking.

If you can fit it in, wouldn't hurt. You are running big tires and like to offroad it.

Cheers Scrapdaddy. The body is function is important! I'm a gonna take your advise.

Those are the pictures I needed! Thanks Pighead. Never have to drop everything, but all the same I am stoked you did:cheers:!! By the way that flying piggy is pretty sick!

Very important. I've seen Saginaw boxes flexing frames on un-braced 40s, it isn't pretty.

Geez, you couldn't pressure wash it first?

Let me drop everything and go pressure wash my inside frame rail and re-take some pics...

that's lookin a gift horse in tha mouf...I saw those an said to meself, "Me, your frame looks ok, stop frettin, look at what the Pigodd is runnin:hillbilly:" an then think about it...Why are these frames still so stout? cause of the protective grease layer left by the mighty F series engine what drives these beasts. So, think like your pig before you go posting about "make it cleaner":flipoff2::cheers:

My frame gross, too. Pighead just sounded so eager to help. I can't really talk, cuz when I was pounding the TREs out today I could hear random clumps of crap dropping on the driveway. The did a good scrape job before posting progress.
