You don't have to press them in. Use a big socket and hammer. Something that spans the bearing and tap it in evenly, until it seats.

Got busy today before going to work. Took the old woodblock technique followed by the old bearing with a grinder blade width slice cut out. Worked like a charm. I guess that this stuff isn't rocket science. Got the axles and the rear cover all put in and painted!!! Just a little farther.

Got to get it back in and then just the ebrake setup left. Any glaring errors? Wish I could get that hard brake line perfect looking:meh:.
Anybody done the e brake thing before? Only thing that I think might be a problem is the cable length. It worked in the 60, it seems like it should be long enough.:hhmm:

Iknow and I didn't paint the brakets. I drew the line! Maybe I should go back and fix that... If I'm gonna do then do it, righ?t!!!

Look at your e-brake cable, inside the drum. Is it installed right, I can't tell. Here's a picture of mine, the two little knobs on the cable, should be set inbetween the pulley slots. If that makes sence.

Xtiaan,

That's good, I couldn't tell, from the picture. Everything is looking good and I like those axle stands.

Got the tires on and think that I might be done. Still have to test drive. I have got to get the drive shaft on, but it has been recommended to torque the pinion flange bolt to 124 or so. I couldn't get the twrench to click. Seems like I didn't take that much to get it off. That is what is holding me back from the test drive.
The ebrake is not as simple as I had hoped, but might not be too hard. First I am going to move the rear heater to the passenger side. Then it should go. I hope.
Pics. Got a shot of how far the tire extends out the side and others too

Does the parking brake cable rub the rear shock? It's looks so in the pic.
Have you looked at marring the 60 parking brake cable to the 55 cable? I'm going to try. I'd like to keep the oem under dash parking brake rod in place.
Were you moving the heater to mount a 60 parking brake handle?

Progress looks great, sorry for so many question.

There is about an inch and a half space between the shock and cable. Yea, what a bummer to have to move the heater, but the 62 handle won't fit unless I do. Actually the handle looks to fit, it is the cable run that is the challenge. I seems like it should be no big deal to move the heater over to the passenger side. Tons of space over there.

Progress looks great, I am hoping that when I get on the freeway everything doesn't fall apart. Hopefully I got the pinion angle right.

I still haven't attached the driveshaft. It was recommended to torque it to 124lbs. Seems like that is alot. Any thoughts? Anybody?!!!

e brake handle

Getting things done in small steps. Gotta get the line connected and supported underneath, and figure out how to make a boot on the top to get the clean up the look. It will be interesting how to make the penetration in the floor for the cable.:hhmm:
When I moved the heater I angled it to aim more towards the middle of the back seat. It's a bummer that I had to cut the top to make it fit under the last seat braket- underneath so who cares.:D

I've got to deal with mounting my e-brake handle, also. I've seen some on the left side of the driver's seat. Are you planning on a center console?

The way my seats are I won't be able do the left side. I do lots of camping so I have always wanted the space between the seats to be clear for foot travel between the front and the back. I was bummed that was the place. There is about a half inch between the driver seat and the handle.

Ebrake mounted and connected. Got the rig out on the freeway! Ran great -no wierd vibrations. Was just waiting for something to happen.

Got to work after having driven it around for about 30 mins and started to back up and I heard a deep cuchunking sound. Happened in foward and reverse at slow speed. I had heard a similar sound a long time ago when I had the wrong differencial fluid in it. I guess with a limited slip there is some additive needed.

I'll try tomorrow to get new fluid in and hopefully that will take care of the noises.:frown: I remain hopeful.

pics to come.
