bad words are coming from my mouth

Okay so when I got the front axle I noticed that there were no calipers okay, bummer, but what ever. Get them home and start dissasembly and notice that the passengerside knuckle has heli coils where the caliper bolts go, okay. I have heard they are a bummer, but they should work.

Got the passenger side done. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am going to bolt in the driverside caliper in and only to find out that the threads are stripped. They tightened with fingers, but when pressure was put on they slipped!!!

Bitter feelings, very bitter feelings

Well. Not too bad. Only took off the hub, and the helicoil went pretty smoothly, for my first time.

All that remains is the little valve in the MC and bleed. Probably redo the Aisin locks tonight.

A little nervous. Hope it all works out:hillbilly:

Good Job, I had to put one in mine, also. Would rather not have the Helicoil, but they are supposed to be strong enough.

done...?

Stoked. Been waiting for a long time for this. I guess that this shouldn't be called done til I have driven over the hill to the beach. Really test 'em brakes

I need all the help I can get with that!

I guess I should start thinking about getting that 62 rear axle in. The first things I see are the perches. I am guessing that I cut them off and reweld a 1 1/2 in. Little worried about getting the right angles and such. Can I use the new stableizer bar or do I cut off and use the one from the 55 axle. It seems to be a different conection at the drive shaft, as well. I have an Auburn limited slip in my 55 axle that I imagine would be good to put into the 62.

If you didn't use red thread locker on the studs holding on the wheel spacers you aren't done. Pull them off and thread lock them on.

nothing but fun

Cheers on the advice on the thread locker! Soon as I got the brakes done and started driving around I got a hole in a radiatior hose and then the batteries would not charge. Fortunately they were both just a simple fix.

I am going on a day trip up to Fraiser Park to see how everything is working and then its time to plan that Death Valley Trip.

Anyone outthere put a 62 rear axle on a '75 fj55?

I am imagining that it is the same. Any pit falls that you experienced? My thoughts are that while keeping the same angle on the perches, cut them off and reweld them 1.5 inches towards the center. Then to get the stablizer bar I cut it off the old 55 axle and fix it on the 62 axle. Will I be able to use the, what's the shaft that comes out of the pumpkin, on the 62, because the attachment to the drive shaft does not match the the 62 axle?

Oh by the way I got the wheels off and put the thread lock on the spacers. Miller Jeep Trail was crazy! I cannot believe what these rigs can go up!!! I am betting that I can call it done on the disk brake conversion after that journey.

slipshaft? pinion shaft?

i am running stock 55 sway bar, making my own tabs to mate to the 60 axle. just finished welding shock tabs last weekend. driveshaft is a 3spd shaft to aftermarket 4.56 gears with a pickup transfer case pinion flange drilled to match.
no issues. spring perches are outboarded. just cleared the oem 60 vent hole, so i will have to rework the brakeline t, but shouldn't be too bad. working on figuring out where to mount the 60 ebrake setup next.

Yea! I am pretty stoked about the ebrake set up. I guess that I will be rocking a parking brake and an e-brake! If you have any pics of your set up I would love to see how it's all coming together.

engine mounts

Couple of months ago I replaced the cracked front motor mounts. Happen to look down there the other day and they are broken again! What's the deal?

i should probably start a build thread.....especially now that i'm actually working on it again.

Nuclearlemon, you mentioned that you outboarded the spring perches. I was wondering, didn't you move them in towards the center. I heard that the 62 axle was 3" wider than the 55. I am guessing that the pearches get moved in 1.5" on both sides. That is pretty close to the breather, right? Am I right, it looks like you moved the perches(2) that were on the axle not the perches that connect to the frame(4)?

Thanks for the help.

Happy Thanksgiving

sorry, meant front springs were outboarded...rears are inboard of where they would be on a 60

nothing. I got some new ones and hopefully they won't do it again.

My new project is a rear 62 axle. Does anyone know if there is any length difference between the 55 and the 62? I am wondering if the drive shaft will need any modification.
