I should write the whole story down. The details make it even funnier. That neighborhood was transformed after that....at least until "that a@#$hole wif dat !@#$% tan jeep-thang" moved away. It was a crime ridden area and I went to war with the zombies living around me. Baseball bats, ass punji, chains, etc. My best friend of 25 years (room mate at the time this all happened) is a lawyer now...he and his lawyer father still tell stories from that year. It all started tho with a rusted out 74 FJ40 and a stolen stereo....what happened after that was a hell of an adventure for me and lots of pain for the bad guys. When I joined the Airborne a couple years after all this stuff happened, well, being in the paratroops was a mere extension of my prior civilian activities.Electrified door handles and punji sticks a s s traps..OMG I haven´t laughed this hard in a long time. I gotta find you guys and have a beer when I get back, tears are still rolling down my cheeks. Thanks to whoever brought this old thread back.
I have had two break ins into my cruiser in the first year of owning it. Each time it was parked in a "nice or really nice" part of town. First during a weekday afternoon next to the front entrance of the swankest funeral home in the most exclusive part of town. Maserattis, Porshes and Benzs all in the same parking lot which was patrolled by three shotgun wielding guards. They broke the OEM locks and grabbed my gym bag with nice gear in it. The second time was in the grocery store parking lot.Same deal, jimmied the OEM door locks and stole another gym bag. Same crew stole from a buddy´s car parked in the same lot two days later. The shotgun toting security guards ran the other way as the world watched my enraged , screaming buddy chase after three guys who were rifling through his car, all the while running after them while still carrying bags full of groceries.
X100 on layering car security. I added the darkest window tint all around that I could find. It keeps the casual roving eyes out and keeps it cooler in the tropical heat. I changed out the door locks to much tougher aftermarket locks and using the same lock cylinders added hood loocks on both sides. Again keeps the casual guy with the screwdriver out. I added an alarm with door and hood switches all around and motion detector. The idea is that a guy just walking by can´t get a good look into the car to see if there is anything worth stealing, he´ll have to work harder to get in if he thinks that there "might" be something worth stealing in there and the car will be wailing and screaming as soon as he touches it before he can get to work. Knock on wood no break ins in the two years since taking these steps.
Would it be possible to hook up a go phone to text you something or call you once your door opens? You could also hook up an car charger to charge the phone while you start your car and are driving again.
I think y'all need to move out of the hood. Lol not alot of that kinda crime around here plus everyone knows that it is my cruiser and they don't touch it. Also I don't leave anything worth anything in the rig over night
