The ignition switch is extremely easy to get at, unfortunatley I was very surprised a couple of years ago to find that even the FJ-60's have the exact same settup in them. Toyota carried that design for a very long time.

And actually, a thief could crush the old brittle plastic, and a dime will turn the switch.

I use an electric fuel pump cutoff switch, installed 180 degrees. All the other switches flick up to turn on, but that one has to be down. Also, I use no labels on the switches. My wife hates me, but I'd rather keep my 40. :D

I think the easyest thing to do are the stupid things that theives wouldnt expect...

seems to me that if they are seasoned enough..they will be looking for ways to bypass kill switches and ignitions etc..thats why I didnt bother putting in a keyed ignition...figure any s***ty theif knows how to pop one...

So after reading the above stupid things that seem like they might not be looking for would be the 4wd/2wd selector left in Neutral. Theyll be too busy trying to bust the ignition etc to notice something like that. Maybe a sticker in the window that says "this vehicle is protected by mossberg firearms"??? haha

I have a simple push button start next to it is the ignition switch....and then there is a switch on the very left of the dash that must be held in the on position while pushing the push start button for it to start. In addition I have another push button start kill switch that is hidden in the vehicle incase I feel the need to be a bit more carefull...also will have a battery kill switch-but thats not in yet.

But when it comes down to it...good insurance and a good apraisal value always helps!

I know this is a little more involved than just driving a cruiser away but has anyone had problems with their rig being stolen by someone towing away?

I have a fuel pump switch, push button start and the vehicle power from a GM steering column with a key...I like it, but your momentary one switch that you have to hold down, that's a good idea...I might add that next.

Usually the Garage. But I am worried about parking lots during the day, or at work.

I went with a viper alarm system and the club. I think that it was the viper 350 with a motion sensor for when I take the top off. After I caught someone trying to steal my cruiser I put some money into protecting it. I am a lifeguard and when I walk out from work with a guy smashing my window it was definitely agravating. All he stole was a candy bar.

If the guy has a flatbed and wants the truck you are toast... I watched while a guy reposessed a car at an apartment complex during the day. (In the garage, wrong side... had to pull it sideways) No one blinked an eye. A little oil on the aluminum bed and she slides up just like she's rolling. Reassuring, huh?

My son had a pushbutton in the armrest of his Jetta. Had to hold it down and turn the key to start. Fooled me for a weekend while he was away!

been 3 years since the last post and my truck just got some stuff stolen from it for the first time since Nov... I live in a gated apartment complex so pretty s***ty to think it might be someone who I live next to.

I'm just glad the truck isn't gone - i usually don't do anything and haven't had an issue - i could start disconnecting the batter, get a kill switch, get the club etc as mentioned already in this thread

has anyone used GPS locators?? any recommendations on products?

I've been shopping into GPS locators myself. LoJack has atrocious coverage in my neck of the woods. 30 minutes south of my current location, and you're out of coverage by LoJack. Comforting, eh? I found a few fleet-based solutions, but nothing was cost-effective. I'm still looking, hoping that I'll find something.

yea let me know if you find something... i mean i know parents use these things to keep track of their kids... this isn't much different - i just dont know if i can stomach $30 bucks a month

hmm now that would be pretty darn slick! i'll have to get thinking on that one

I had a 74 with no top. Some jackhole ripped my radio out. Solution was to put pine boards with dozens of #11 exacto blades under the sheepskin seat covers. After that I bought a shiney new stereo. Got 2 perps that way....then the word got out. After that I could have left a bag of cash in the tool box all night with no trouble.

I've left mine in neutral or low gear. I figured I can walk up to them on the road while they're trying to get away in low.

I also have removed the rotor when my dizzy was a pop-off cap, but that takes popping the hood which is a pain.

If I was one of those jackholes you got with your punji sticks, I would've stuffed a rag in your tank and set it on fire.

If you could get the antennas to work, you could install a Spot Personal Locator somewhere out of sight. $8.33/month, unlimited coverage worldwide.

Edit: I'll bet with a fiberglass, soft or no top you could put it in the headrest and it would work like outdoors.

I think removing a tire every evening would be the best way to keep it theft proof. Make it two, you never know what thief carries around a socket set to use your spare.

Alternatively, raise a vicious nocturnal doberman and throw a dog bed in the back seat.

Good luck with that. My cats are more vicious and my teenagers sleep less than the dobermans. Pretty though...

Personaly, I hate car thieves and and anyone who breaks in a car. I read in the anarchist cookbook about a great way to deter a thief. Purchase one stick of dynamite under the seat and upon exit set a trigger that will engage when a thief sits on the seat but will not explode until the thief exits.. You certainly will be informed when and where the thief got out. ( through the roof)
