Something real cool is that the pinstripe artist signed it.....

A quick yahoo search brought up this place

I sent him a message. I sure hope he responds with some good info

Awesome

So the graphics are painted on, not a decal?

They are decals.

The paint I’m removing looks like it was some kind of mist custom job. I’m just glad he did Not sand down the stock paint

Stoked. This was the biggest nut to crack.

Here are some during shots. My happy place on this is CLR and 0000 steel wool.

This is after 2 complete rounds of polish and then a final wax. Not bad for 34 year old paint
Hood. Done.

I was slapping myself on the back on how easy the tint was to remove.
That was until I touched the inside of the window and realized all the old glue has to be razor bladed off.

FJ-60s look best without tinted windows. I also would rather look at the cracked dash than the I’ll fitting, wrong colored junk that was on it

Not sure what method you used to de-tint, but a cheap steamer almost makes it too easy. Glue comes off with the tint as you peel. Lookin good.

Too late for that. I snatched it off and by the one window I cleaned I would say I guess all the glue stayed on the window

Are you going to Desmog this one or keep it stock? Mine still has factory smog stuff still on and can’t decide what to do. Remove it or throw on this Howell FI Kit I’ve got.

This one runs so good the plan is to do a light under hood refresh and drive it until it does not run good.

R2D2 is a great name. Strong second choice: Jim Duggan.

Beautiful your cleaning it up nicely. What a great find. Love the 60 and Star Wars theme, R2D2 is a great name, my kids would agree. I was considering a paint job on my 60 and now you’ve got me wanting to see if I can restore it’s factory paint. I love the patina look.

Are you running steel wool on your orbital and just dumping a small amount of CLR on?

Here is the instruction manual

Hojack, no I’ve never used that. Your truck looks great. Get an orbital and get to work.

Today’s R2D2 time was mostly crap. I spent a couple HOURS scraping glue off all but two windows before I gave up and moved to paint removal and polish.

This gets tricky. The custom paint job stops about 1/2 way down the side of the truck so I went from a topcoat that is fairly easy to remove to stock silver paint which won’t budge.

One fender done. This took a lot of work. Hoping it gets better along the side .....

The unpolished side.....

Ive got to experiment with some way to transition the gray to silver since the rockers are stock and unpainted.
