The front body parts removed, did this a couple days back.

The body is not connected to anything as well. Waiting till payday to get the hoist and remove the body, then on to a SOA, fix any leaks while body is off as well, probably rebuild axles while there out also.

Very nice ! With your own parts house, too !

Can you desmog in your area ?

Spike, Its already been partially desmogged. But seeing how it will not be licensed in GA if licensed at all, sure I can! If it gets licensed it will be in either FL or WY neither of which have inspections (that I'm aware of.) I will finish the desmogging act during rebuild as well, all I have to do is remove the air pump and replace it with an Idler Pulley, because it has already been capped off. All the major smog hoses have just been cut and removed. Oh and my exhaust has to be re done, for several reasons. But that should conclude the desmogging.

Well, the body is off!

Immediately after getting it off and out of the way!

After Washing the Frame.
DSC_0036.jpg

So, this is something that should NOT be done by yourself. It is clearly doable, but holy cuss it is no fun. So after getting it off and washing the frame, I gave the frame a good once over to look for any problem areas. NONE, the frame is in great shape, a little bit to clean off all the grease and then another coat of paint, itll be good as new. Then I took the front bumper off, as I'll be making my own. Then started in on taking pieces off the front axle to begin the SOA. Going to call ACC in Atlanta tomorrow to see if they have any of the parts I need to do it. If anyone is in reading this that lives in the Atlanta area and wants to come help. Id be more than happy to provide beer! Also, anyone need rear windows? I have two for sale.

Wow, you work fast --

Beer makes everything go nice ...

Thanks Spike, Id Like to make GSMTR with this rig this year. So im trying to work a little faster than usual. Come on over if you want to help, although i dont believe your any where near here!

Beer does make things go nice... however those were celebratory, in other words i felt i wanted a beer after getting the body off. So in comes the amazing wifey! She stopped and picked up the six pack for me.

In metro Atlanta, emissions inspections for tag only go back 25 years, after that emission test certificates are no longer needed. My 87 just crossed that threshold, and ACC Toyota finished the desmog on it (while doing a bunch of other stuff.) So you have the option to just keep it in GA. although a Wyoming tag on a lifted purple 60 would look damn cool while trundling around Atlanta.

Keep that beer handy, man its the one thing we never factor in to the cost of our builds! usually doubles the cost of all my projects. Maybe I have too many friends standing around doing nothing and drinking all of it...

Snow, that's a very good point. However I've only had one guy stop by for a bit since I started. Of course I would get more if I was having help over.

Yesterday I started cleaning the frame. I'm not sure if I want to continue with the grinder or take it up to gainesville to have it blasted. Alison's sandblasting quoted me 150. Everywhere else is close to the 600 mark. Well see today I guess. Anybody in Atlanta have a trailer I could borrow?

Kennesaw huh? I may have to drop in and check this out.

Glad someone picked those up. I went and looked at them a few weeks ago. Very nice guy who was selling them - how did you get the one with the bashed up side out of the woods?

It was already out when I got there. When I looked at them I couldn't pass it up. May have been crazy on our part but it was too good a deal to pass up. Especially considering the one in the woods runs just fine, needs a tune but no biggy. Nothing wrong with it that I can see.

So I didn't get a whole lot done today. I fought with pulling the motor all day and finally got it at about 3pm. Then I began wire wheeling to clean the frame. That didn't last long as I am tired of using a grinder. I called the shop up in Gainseville that quoted me 150 for sandblasting and asked when the closed..... They were closing in minutes. But the guy offered to stay. I expected to be there by 6pm. Didn't make it till 720pm. The guy was cool about it the whole time so props to them. Looking at the stuff they had sitting there it looks like it will be money well spent. I'll let you know how it comes out when it's done. But that's all for today. Plan on pulling the valve cover tomorrow and possibly the head. We'll see. I'll post pictures tomorrow as well, because I can't do it from my telephono.

Here are some pics from yesterday.

Where I started,

I should have checked the balance better before going all the way up to get over the frame. Oh well learned for next time.

4 or 5 hours later.

Then put it down, left to go find a trailer, and boogie over to the sandblaster in Gainseville. Snapped this just after getting the truck in the garage and heading in for the night.

So the color were going to use, alot are probably familiar with..... Stellar Blue Pearl! It was on the 3rd Gen 4runners. It was always a favorite color of mine and I've never seen a Landcruiser with a color like it. And the entire truck will be painted not just the outside. The whole blasted thing will be the color, as to look original. Once I get the chassis back I'll be pulling the axles, finish clean up of the spots they couldnt get to, and begin painting the frame. Going to use this Inside the Frame, from Eastwood. Then looking at using there extreme satin black for the outside frame on top of a primer yet to be determined. May end up just using some rustoleom as its cheaper. Oh and I got the idea of the inside frame thing from GLTHFJ60's build. Quite the beast that rig is. If anyone has recommendations for primers and paints please share!

You're a maniac dude! I'll be stopping in this week to check your progress on rig #2!

So, I picked up the Chassis today. I would first like to say that the guys over at Alison's Sandblasting in Gainesville GA are pretty awesome. One of them waited until well after 7pm on last friday for me to show up, then told me they would have it done sometime mid next week (this week). Then on monday at about 2pm they called and said your chassis is ready, wow that was fast. Then I figured out my trailer situation and went up there today to pick it up. Thanks to Don a friend from church (if you ever read this) for the lending the trailer. The chassis turned out real well. There were some spots that could have been a bit cleaner but for the price, it is awesome. So, if your looking for a blaster in N. Georgia, I highly recommend them, oh and they qouted me 400 to do the body. Now I apologize for not having any real good before pictures but heres what I have.

Then I also started wire wheeling the rusty areas on the body im going to use, I found someone has already made an attempt at fixing the rust with a patch and a lot of bondo. No pictures of that though. I also found the reason why the second one doesnt run there is a softball size hole in the side/bottom of the block. No idea how that got there.

Frame looks nice!
To combat any future rust (I had a bunch) I had my frame sandblasted, then galvanized, then powdercoated. It looks great is is pretty mush bulletproof now.
