Here is my shorty forty. I have a work vehicle but I drive this every opportunity. That is close on every day. I wasn't too enthralled with the 3B but now that I have done the injectors and fuel pump I am quite impressed.

Why not a turbo on the 3B? I had a 350 once.... If I live my life right, I never will own one again.

I thought of that for a while, but diesels are so slow and gutless, 300hp with the right noises is so much nicer! I also drive a twin turbo'd 69 fastback stang, so I do like v8's. Why did u not like your 350? Was it a rusty old POS skiboat engine or something?

Also considering a toyota 4litre lexus v8, but the 350 seems so much more simple!
how do I post more piccys when the red line on the attachments page is nearly full?

Many people are going with the 6.5l V8 diesels nowadays. Diesel gives you more lug which is so much better for 4WDing. Plus with the right diff ratios, you'll get the same fuel economy as you would with your 3B.

The 350s can be pigs on the juice, plus with the carby and electricals they don't like going through water that much.

I found with my 3B that it was a dog of a thing, but then I did the injectors and gaskets in the fuel pump. Now it seems a completely different motor. It still hasn't got much top end (although the 5 speed makes up for a lot of that) but the bottom end is so chirpy! The hand throttle is your friend when going through rough stuff.

3B Vs chev diesel V8

Yeah I'd love a 6.5L chev diesel, a mate at work has one in a 60 series and loves it. It's just the price that scares me, and if anything breaks, the replacement bits or reco's are scarey too. A rebuilt 350 complete is about $3000, a new one is about $4-5000. A tired 6.5L diesel is about $8000! That's a whole lotta petrol I could buy to feed a 350!

My 40

My dad rescued my 1968 FJ40 from a ranch out in Colorado somewhere. I'm taking a fix it as it breaks approach. Stock running gear (4.11 diff) suits me fine for now. It's more of a play toy then a daily driver, but when I need 4 wheels I drive it, normally I ride my motorcycle. Stock height (maybe a little bit below due to sag, but it rides so nice!) with 31x10.5 generals racing slicks. I took the top off and never looked back, got to love San Diego. I consider it clean, except for the paint, but nice paint's a waste of money out here, unless you like having desert pinstriping on an 800 dollar paint job?!? It's Krylon Ultra Flat OD Green over Terracatta marine paint (complete with brush stroke marks).

Here in Denver,CO. I`am getting a 94 chevy 3/4ton 4x4 truck with the 6.5turbo, NV4500.
The whole truck runs great, getting it for around $4,300, going to put the engine, tranny, in my FJ40.
