I love the story!!

Birthday is most likely Friday Oct 11th 1974. It was the day after a holiday, so hopefully the workers were well rested and not hung over

Super Cool tidbit on Sports Day in Japan!! Seems like a much more sober holiday than, say, St Patty's Day, LOL! Still rolling on the original drivetrain at 50 YEARS OLD, so I may have gotten lucky.

Somehow I was remembering October 21st for the carb but it seems I dreamed the final 1 🤔

02/10/1973 for the carb

So good job on the date, 11/10/1973 looks like a good one!
I like to think it was not the last one of the day, because once I stumbled on another FJ40 in France with my serial number+2 and I imagine they both came out together from the factory before to be loaded on a ship to Europe 😄
Awesome! Thank you!

I'd love to know! '76 FJ40 214429
Your 40's most likley birthday is sometime between Friday December 5th and Wednesday December 10th 1975... Sorry I can't be more precise :) (see blow)

December poses a challenge for pinpointing the exact production day due to Toyota typically manufacturing fewer units during that month. In 1975, there were 355 fewer Toyota Land Cruisers produced in December than in November. This appears to exceed the typical decline observed in December from other years. After researching, no historical events disrupting supply chains were found... so here is my thoughts... It is customary in Japan to grant employees time off in December and even to halt production around New Year's Day. In 1975, New Year's Day fell on a Wednesday. Therefore, I made the educated guess that Toyota likely shut down production during the final week of the year. However, this still doesn't account for the decrease of about 20 units per day in production. This reduction could possibility be a result of some employees being granted time off during the month of December, or...

Another possibility is that Toyota stopped production the last week and a half of December to allocate resources for activities such as factory maintenance, inventory counting, time off, etc.. In this scenario, daily production figures would align more closely with typical months, suggesting that your 40's birthday most likely falls on Friday, December 5th.

I think you would be safe celebrating one of these days

- Friday the 5th
- Monday the 8th
- Tuesday the 9th
- Wednesday the 10th

Your 40's most likely birthday is Thursday June 14th 1975.

It is probably impossible to determine the exact 2F engine originally in your 40. However, if you come across one from early 1975, it would be close and I think would be considered "date correct". While I haven't extensively researched 2F production numbers and dates, based on what I have gathered and common sense, an engine dated anywhere from January to June of 1975 would likely be considered "date correct".

If I had to make an estimation, I would speculate that your 2F engine was most likely manufactured in April 1975.

my 75 was also owned by a sailor at some point before the mid 90s, and he left a something behind.
