Wow, this is one of the earilest ones I have seen. I don't have production dates that early. Let me do a little research and see what I can come up with.

@procomsignathid My best estimate would place your 40's assembly date in Japan somewhere around Monday, October 26th, 1977. Considering the details shared in your thread, along with the photos, I am inclined to believe that your 40 initially arrived in the USA in early 1978 and was later shipped to Colombia. There was a time, probably in the 1990s, when it was likely cheaper to restore and worth more in Colombia than in the USA, but then later in the 2020s it became more valuable here, so someone shipped it back.

It's pretty cool to think about the fact that your 40 has lived and spent considerable time on three distinct continents. He just needs to make it back to Japan to complete the journey... maybe one day!

When I Google the info on this sticker, it brings up info in Quito, Ecuador. I wish these things could talk. I bet yours would have some good stories.

Surprisingly the final axle ratio is 4.11 (KO82), instead of 3.70 (KO52)...

Not sure if they worked on Friday, December 31st, 1971, but if they did, that was probably when yours was born. VIN# 119263 was the last one made in December, and yours was only 46 away from being a 1972 production date.

This is a great thread! Thanks for taking the time to set this up. I have a July 1976, VIN FJ40-227940. I'll plan a party if you can tell me what day?
I think it came form Kansas City area and moved to Maine. Sat in someone's garage for 10+ years before I bought it in 2020. Daily driver in the non=salted road months since 2022.
i bought it disassembled. This is what it looked like when I got it home and "reassembled" it.
