Every tuner i went to that had a 4wd dyno is soooo backed up. That was the other reason i didnt go turbo, nobody had time to tune. One shop said they would give it a try but not till september or october and this happened in July. BTW, i really enjoyed your threads on your build and saw all the help you offer with heckraiser and others.

Looking forward to seeing what sort of atw KW and Ft Lb/NM a supercharged 1FZ puts down - I suspect it might have been easier and cheaper to mildly work a 1FZ for similar power outputs as a 1HD-T with 10k thrown at it...

Here a HDJ80 fetches around 8 grand more than a similar condition FZJ80 (From my research) so I possibly could have paid about 8.5k for an 80, dropped 10k on the 1FZ and had...oh never mind, I didn't do that...

Still, being able to light up all 4 at will is quite enjoyable!

The rule of thumb is about 3% per 1000ft in NA applications and .5% per 1000ft in SC applications. So at 10,000ft a NA truck would be down on 30% power, and a SC truck would be down 5%.

Yeah off highway at 10k I'm not going to notice 5% ;)

Yeah you're a flat lander ;). These Colorado guys pulling the passes at speed will notice ;) I know when my truck was NA at 13,200, even in low range I felt worried with the truck's hill climbing capacity off road. Lol

I just got done doing my s/c install, so probably shouldn't vote just yet. I'm on the fence. The power is wonderful. The cooling system issues not so much, and I have been fighting a cold start problem with my EGR system. Once I get that figured out, it will likely move me higher on the ROI satisfaction index. Most of the LS conversions I have read about on here seem to cost over $10k and closer to $15k. I know there is always "that guy" who can do conversion for $1200 and a couple of weekends and everything works out great, but to have the same level of reliability and the least amount of quirkiness I think puts it in that $12-15k ballpark. If it was closer in cost, it'd be a no brainer to go V8.

I can feel the difference on the pass if my dog is in the back. My ass dyno is pretty sensitive. Minter eating thread as I'm faced with this decision moving forward. Full rebuild with SC. Or go LS swap.

Very happy with my SC for the last 100,000+ miles.

I can drive my Cruiser at altitude, with no problems, with my current build and fully loaded.

Examples:
1) Before, Eastbound Vail Pass on I-70, was a 25 mile an hour affair -- now I can pass traffic.
2) Still have power at 12,000' climbing up to Black Bear Pass
3) Grapevine on The 5, I can hold 80 mph going up.
4) Bishop to Tom's Place on HWY 395, I can hold 80mph. Rubicons and 100 Series, watch in disbelief, as I pass them on their Right!
Dang... I hated driving fully loaded up vail pass, I had semi trucks passed me

...because they had forced induction..

A turboprop is actually a gas turbine (jet engine) with a propellor on the front. It's completely different from the turbocharged internal combustion engines which are common on light aircraft.
Yes, thank you for clarifying and correcting my statement. I had that thought in my head, and typed something else.

You could always pull the front driveshaft, lock the CDL, and run it on a 2WD dyno. But you should have done your "before" runs the same way to compare apples to apples.

That was my intention, to try and keep all things equal. Same dyno, same shop, same 3 runs. Post dyno is still scheduled for Tuesday, 830AM. I've waited this long, I can wait a few more days.

Want more power and not have to drop in a turbo or a SC. replace the auto with a H151F. You will notice the difference. Night and day... Best mod I have ever done for my 80. or go the LS route.

Well you do ( and live ) the Diesel thing coz you like it .. I like every part of it .. and If I had more $$$ more I'll put in there .. ( despite the power by $$$ you can get from LS engine swap .. )

Post a video or it didn't happen!
