I slow rolled the 1972 40 but the roll cage saved me. It was a 1 and a quarter roll over. It was freaking scary, but the harness and cage saved my butt. Every body part is now smashed, crushed, or badly bent. Im not sure what to do now. I really cant afford a new body or tub. I dont think the frame is bent, the axels seem fine, the radiator got smashed down. This 40 has the MAF Rock Crawler kit, reverse shackle, ubolt flip, power steering, 350/ with off road Avenger carb, Ron Davis alum radiator with elect fan (smashed) 37" MTR's, double swingout bumper, rear battery, in cab fuel cell, five point harnesses thru racing seats on custom sliders.

I also have a stock 72 but it is unmolested so I really dont want to put everything on it. Maybe part out the rolled one. I wish I could afford to Aqualu all the body but im a poor ass cop. any suggestions???

I will post some pics tomorrow, its stored in my friends shop.

Is it not drivable with some repairs? I think I would just get it functioning again as a wheeler and look for a cheap tub/body when you can afford it. That way at least you still have a toy, even if it's ugly while you save for a new tub.

Fix the mechanicals then bang push or pull the body so you can wheel it. Once you get a few dents they are a lot more fun to drive. Besides people are less likely to steal a truck that looks like death warmed over.

Pictures would help a lot, metal can be straightened to some degree, I have seen rolled jeeps straightened up to look real good, usually windshield frame hood and maybe fenders replaced, then I have seen some that were ready for a whole new body.

Here is what we did to mine...bang out the body and piece meal the parts as you can afford it...fenders / windshield / hood / grill...all are easily available if you are patient.

It's a wheeler now....
flipped.webp

I feel for you! Especially the poor ass cop part. LOL I always wonder how these guys afford these frame off restorations. I then remember people have jobs that make money.

I agree pound some of the the major dents out and wheel it. Have fun dont worry about the sheet metal anymore.

Get a bigass hammer and a dent puller and go to town. I rolled one when I was a kid in New Hampshire and daily drove it all winter with no top. Snowstorms were a bummer. But I was still in a LandCruiser so all was good.

Sounds like you have a great wheelin truck now..

Dents are better than rust. Trust me Im fighting that fight now.

Thanks for the replies. I am now blessed with pneumonia, so ill try to get the pics taken tomorrow. The rollover happened on a fireroad. I only have liability on the 40. It deff has character now. I already robbed the Smittybilt console from it for my 60. Again, Ill try and post pix tomorrow..

damn man, hope you can get the 'ol girl above par for a scrap yard. hate to see these old legends go. i'll take her for above scrap price.

I laid mine on its side last weekend. I took a hammer and punch to it and straightened most of the damage out.

Just buggy it out and keep wheeling.

s*** happens. I lost a wheel driving down the road in my 78 bj40, after fixing it in the rain on the side of the road I proceeded in my destructiveness and rolled it in my driveway ten minutes after getting it home. Had to upright it with my other 40. Talk about a rough day! It's a wheeler now.
