I picked up this FJ40 with the intention of building a trail rig about four years ago. I had gone as far as I could go with rockcrawling, so I sold my rock buggy and was looking forward to just going exploring again. When I got it home and started working on it, I noticed it was very complete and most everything was in really good shape. It seemed a shame to cut up such an nice original FJ, so I decided that after destroying several Toyotas over the years it was time to give one back. The first few pics are actually from the "for sale" ad, as all of my pictures of the tear down were lost when my computer crashed. Those are boring anyway. So far, I have completely rebuilt the trans and transfer case. I then rebuilt the engine and had the donor block bored .040 over. I rebuilt the starter, alternator and carburetor myself. My plan is to do the resto in three "stages" The first was the powertrain and now we will start on the chassis. The third stage will be the body.
