@Living in the Past hadn't thought about what could be done to improve the design. You raise a good point about the shifter length as this would impact the throw distance between the gears.

Maybe a two-piece design would provide a solution for customization. Seems like a machine shop could make the ball/pivot with a lathe and design it with a threaded end; a cane could be ordered to suit the application. There's a couple problems with this sort of design and I doubt it would be enough of a selling point to sway people from working with what is available from your Toyota parts dealer.

this shifter thing got me thinking. is the 60 series US shifter for an H55 designed with a different angle, bent more towards the driver because of the rotation of the 3F bellhousing?
if the 3F bellhousing was used on RHD rigs, the shifter has a different angle than a LHD rig. I remember a guy putting an H55 in a RHD rig in the states and said the shifter was at an odd angle for him he was looking for a RHD shifter.

Would a RHD shifter than give better clearance if using a non 3F bellhousing????? is sourcing a RHD shifter a solution?

I think @3_puppies nailed it with respect to the 3F & aluminum 3B bell housings; the clock of the transmission is rotated clockwise from the 2F and cast iron 3B bell housings. A 5 degree rotation would be enough to eliminate the wonky angle of the 60-series shifter in a 40-series. I hadn’t thought about this aspect and I have an aluminum 3B bell housing. Since I couldn’t get a definitive answer about how the mount is addressed with the resulting clock of the transmission I held off using it.

That is interesting, didn't think about the 3F bellhousing before. I have two 60 series shifter I pulled out of junkyard along with the boots time ago. Did not play attention to the production dates. Does bring the question what was is the angle of the RHD shift cane out of a H55F mounted to a 3F bellhousing.

No US spec 60 series came with a 5 speed, as far as I know.

No US spec. Cruiser came with the H55F from the factory that I know of either. Some Canadian BJ60's had them. Did BJ60’s get both the early H55F and the later updated version w/larger input shaft bearing? I’m guessing the clock happened at the same time the size of the input bearing increased.

While I'm not sure I believe but I heard that towards end of the FJ60 some did make it to the US with five speeds which is the reason Toyota will sell them here today. Not sure not all know that at one time if you had a part number Toyota would sell you the part if it was still available, didn't matter which market it was used in. That changed and only parts that were on US market Toyotas are available today. If we did get a five speeds or someone convinced Toyota to continue importing to support all the five speeds had already sold who knows.

I believe the h55f and a lot of diesel parts are available because Toyota lumps the parts into one big North American market rather than individual USA and Canada parts markets.

5 speed 60s never hit the US market . The number got loaded in the US master file years ago. Some day they may figure out the "mistake" and kill the number. That has happened to other numbers.

Unlike diesel engines the five speed does not effect any possible emissions and if anything improves gas mileage.

I wouldn't count on that. Since the gas pedal crucifixion, Toyota's legal department has been on legal-exposure-prevention over-drive.

The last I seen on the FB project, he wanted the investment up front, 70 grand, via Pozible... it would have equated to about 75@850 dollars, being produced. That was posted, April of 2016

That was my thought too. Just seen the posts asking for a update, not sure who is working on the project if anyone.

There's a group working on it. My understanding is they believe it will be a good product and fit the need well. I'm unsure of timing.
