Hate to be a buzz kill, but I think you guys are barking up a dead tree. Like everyone else, I'd love to see a -40 H55 top cover hit the market but can't see how the economics of manufacturing such an intricate and low-volume part could ever work. A 5-speed topcover is a complicated piece of kit that lives under not-inconsiderable stress. Consider the amount of mechanical advantage inflicted on the top cover shafts as you push and pull to find gears... plus heat cycles and vibrations galore.

I think you'd have a better chance pouring your collective resources into getting Toyota to sell the original molds/tooling before trying to make one from scratch. ...and there's essentially zero % chance of that. lol.

I just cut my trans tunnel and bent the shifter cane to clear my console; bang- done.

I feel for you guys still longing for a COTS topcover, but I wouldn't hang a 5 speed conversion on whether I could find one or not.

I found one on eBay about three years ago, just the aluminum top cover, no internal shift forks. I managed to get a local machine shop to fabricate the two unique shift fork parts and used the Rest from the new tranny. It’s really notchy and haven’t met anyone with an H55F yet that I could drive so not sure it’s the fabd parts or the tranny. Sadly, I agree with lelandEOD here.

Looks like my connection was a dead end. Cost would have been too high.

@YoYoHo would you mind contacting me?

Thanks!

I did several times via email and pm but got no response like usual. You guys really need to get some better methods of customer response.

Georg is probably the best small shop owner for customer service I’ve ever dealt with...there is a reason the TLCA awarded Them shop of the year!

Each to there own I can assure you I am not the only person who has had issues with his lack of response. In this case I was just pointing out why I had gone no further with his call out to help with getting the castings done.

As for the TLCA thing I must have missed the survey that asked for input on my experience with him, oh well I hope he hung it on his wall with pride for all to see., everyone loves an award.

Insinuating Georg didn’t live up to your expectations in regards to helping out the community with this top plate is ridiculous. I can assure you if Georg hasn’t responded there is a valid reason.

Now for your childish dig.... Yes he runs the best cruiser shop in California hands down and his old partner Don runs the best Fab shop hands down. I guess your a little jealous TLCA didn’t consider your Soc Cal shop so you figure you would throw a dig at Georg.

You dudes all need to have a chill pill. All I said was I reached out to him as he requested and like several other times he never responded .

To suggest no one is allowed to have any negative experiences with an individual just cause you have found him awesome is bizarre. Even since this post I have others who have similar experiences.

I didn't say his business was bad or he was dodgy at what he did, I simply said his response was lacking and has been on several occasions. That is not a dig it is a statement of fact based on personal experience.

As for thinking I have an issue cause TLCA didn't consider my shop, no damage there I work in a different industry so I would be very surprised if TLCA had any interest in anything I did. Sure I play with some land cruisers from time to time but that is to self fund my obsession not put food on my table.

Anyway, feel free to continue the venting and abuse if that makes you happy, no skin of my nose I have all the 40 series top plates I need for my current projects.

flaming pile of poo at this point I would guess

Let’s not get carried away here. You came to me looking for pricing and info which I happily supplied. I helped you do your homework and supplied you with free info, and in reward you come on here and crap up this thread?!

Come on Brad. We both know that won’t get you far and it’ll certainly be the last time I’ll be happy to invest my time in you.

I think Quickdraw is working on top covers, at least that was what I took away from one of their facebook posts. They do a lot of bellhousings including R2.8 specific ones without an intermediate adapter to a GM pattern.

@nogo has made a working production. If it weren't for Covid would have probably have been done already. Australia particularly Victoria shid down. Think if he felt he could get enough people who would be buyers and not just tire kickers it would happen.

Would be curious on what quickdraw comes up with. The picture in the quickdraw thread looks like a modified 60 series top plate. Painted hard to tell for sure. If that is the case getting a working cover is going to be the hardest part. There is a lot more to the H55F cover than the H41/H42. The up row of shift rods control the lower shift rods that the four speed has plus operate the fifth gear. Business wise think they would concentrate on the one that would work with their engine conversion kits. Selling a whole kit verses a stand alone item is what I would concentrate on. Other than the FB post has anyone had any updates? That post mentioned a few weeks which seems very optimistic for this project knowing what is all involved.
