Launched here first. for all those that have supported me in the project.
See the link at the end of this post.
The top plate has been launched today on a crowd funding site called pozible.

Crowd funding in its most basic form is the general public supporting an idea with money for a reward. In my case I am offering a cost price top plate.

Im not looking for free money, but in the true crowd funding form I am also offering other over inflated items as a reward for donations. This may suit people who want to support the project but not ready for a 5 speed or prefer a different method ...of a 5 speed conversion.

Consider it a pre-order. If I do not get pledges of 70,000 in pre-sales or other donations no money will changed hands and the project fails.

If the 70,000 is raised in the 60 days (over 75 top plates) than money is withdrawn and the project is straight into production and posted to you when its ready.

Why? To minimize the risk for both of us. With tooling costs of 15,000 I could not fund the project myself at the risk of only a few sales. At the same time not many people will send $850 to an unknown person and risk having the project fail without refund. Its time for the community to convince me that 75 people actually want one.

If you have any questions after reading my funding site launched today including its FAQ post them here so it can help everyone.

It's a great that you are doing it and I'm sure a lot of people would love to have one. I know I would but just couldn't justify one at that price.

X2 A whole new transmission is around $2,200 US dollars. Adding another $1,500 for just a top cover is a hard sell. I am in the same boat as you are with factory floor/floor mat that I wouldn't cut and patch to install a transmission with a shifter meant for a 60 series. But adding another $1,500 probably going to happen.

Whatever you need to charge, I'm sure you'll have enough buyers if the quality is OEM...and the unit can be rebuilt with OEM parts. Would be good if it was made from as many OEM parts as possible.

The cost at the moment on a small one of production. Tooling is the bigest cost. The actual per item cost is rather reasonable and I could retail at potential half price less then $750 if I was able to produce over 100. Get me enough. Customers and $600 is realistic. I just don't have the capital or the confidence to make that many. As I said the more I sell the cheaper it can go. I don't want to get to excited about price as it is still early days and I haven't seen the bills yet. It could be a surprise either way.

For that price I would be in for one.

For those of us who are ignorant, would this work in a HJ47 converting the H41 to a H55? I don't really wish to hack the floor up if I don't need to!

For under $1000, I'd definitely be interested. Much more than that and you're approaching the $1500 price that cruiser parts quoted me.

I passed on an OEM one I could've gotten for $1200 a while back. That said, I'd be in for one for about $1k shipped and at least two for $600.

I wouldn't want the first or 2nd one. I'd be waiting for someone to install and confirm functionality.

I'd be interested if it came in near the lower end of the price spectrum. Good luck with you undertaking. Very cool project!

I must be too tired to follow along but what motor/trans application is this top plate for.
If I get this read right you are using a top plate from a BJ42 H55 trans so you can use a gasser H55 transmission in your 40 I would assume a gas engine as well.....am I close.

The top plate is used to convert a h55f 5 speed from a 60 or 70 series to a 40 series 5 speed. Yes it will save you from cutting your inspection plate above the gearbox on the floor tunnel.
It will be tried and tested on my car and ever variety of 5 speed I can get my hands on that may work.

I would be in for one at the lower end of that price range. Will they come with all the "guts", or just the aluminum casting?

Still looking into how many parts from the lx top plate are compatible with the later ones. At a minimum it will include everything that is no reusable or not already on the later plate. I can not see the purpose in remarking a part that you already have or is still avalible. You are my market, let me know if I'm wrong.

I am definitely in need of one for my 82 BJ42 LX. I have the H55 sitting & waiting for the top plate... $600-1000 sounds ok!
