Hey guys I am bringing FJs out of Colombia and will look into fabricating these. Other option... is not the early 70 series 5 speed top plate interchangeable with the later series 79 and up FJ40 floors? my understanding was the chassis and the floors are the same. There are plenty of 2F/3F with 5 speed mid 1980s 70 series running around down there.

I am working on a 79 FJ43 with later floors (gas tank under) which has a 5 speed added. Most likely they had just cut and trimmed the original top plate to make it fit.

If the 70 series has a similar top plate then there should be used ones available assuming I can hunt them down. If not if I can find one to copy I can get it made I bet.

I am in Florida and the truck is being worked on now in Colombia. I fly down to check on it.

Here I found a photo. This 79 looks like it was trimmed or fabricated. it has a 5 speed which was later added.

I believe the problem with the 70 series top plate on a H55F it's the same as the 60 series which is further back than the location on a 40 series. Looks like the inspection cover in your picture has been modified and the opening are further back. They is not a issue getting the 60 series top plate. In the US you can still buy brand new H55F transmission that will come with a 60 series top plate.

OK that is the comment I was looking for.

Yes. not too pretty in the photo. I bought this truck with that adaptation already done. We will cover it with custom made vinyl mats.

One option may be to just modify the 40 series inspection plate and do a much cleaner job.

The metal working skills are great down there just have to oversee and be clear about what you want.

Just I quick update.
This project is still happening. 3d scanning is almost compleated.
So far the project is coming in on budget but over time.
I have also started locating all these extra parts such as origional style gear knobs, springs, ball bearings, and caps.

This is my first project of this style. Even though I am contracting everything out, It is a learning and lengthy pocess for me.
I apologies for the delay, in fact I am driving around with cardboard as my inspection plate myself as I did not expect it to take so long.
Just wanted to say the project is not forgotten about.

As my 60 series 5 speed is attached to my car, is there any one that Curently has one out of a vehcle and can tell me if there is any visual differences with fork and rod lengths between the one in the photo and there's.

Better photo of 40-series 5 spd top cover.

Thank you for the update! I look forward to the finishing result.
Best~

Good news!
Story started when I did my 5 speed conversion I wanted to keep my original good condition floor mats. After many attempt and disappointments. I have finally got hold of a top plate out of an lx 5 speed. I live in Australia and it was still a tough ask to find one.
I know of a few other people looking for a top plate and the only way I can help them is to reverse engineer the one I have.
So I have sent my top plate away to an Australian manufacturer who is in the process of getting It reverse engineered.

This is my first part I have made and feeling rather excited about the whole thing and had to share with the world.

The big question everyone is asking, what will it cost?
No exact answer yet but I'm planning on keeping it between $600 and $1500 plus postage. The more I make the cheaper I can go! I really don't know what it will cost and this is all based on some rough quotes.

I'm looking for expressions of interest only. Post on this page and include your country and quantity. No commitments. I'm aiming to get the interest of 100 people.

DON'T SEND MONEY

This is not a scam and I don't want to see anyone's money. I will edit this post when to part is in production.

Pre orders may be offered when the product is in final stages of development.

What is included?
I'm still looking into details, but at this stage it will only be the housing and some consumable items. With some simple modification anyone with a 5 speed will have all the other parts required to put into there new top plate. This is one way I am able to keep costs down. Stay tuned as I compare parts from multiple boxes closer.

When will it be ready?
I'm planning on the first parts to be posted before January 2015.

Interested! Of course final cost will be a factor.

I would swear I have seen those feet before ;)

if ya all want more pics let me know....still have my LX top plate

At least you weren't in floppies!

Sorry for borrowing, but I couldn't remember who it belonged to...

Sorry about bad pic, the gearbox is in a sling(getting drained before strip down). you can see from the pic that the gear stick pick up is further back with relation to the reverser pick up.I would be interested in a cover to avoid having to shift the engine fwd just to line up the hole in the plate, and cover.

Thanks for the photos. When it gets striped down I would Apriciate a photo of the inside. Of the top plates. Wanting to know what internal parts are different and need manufacturing.
