Here's some pics of my '40. Picked it up (literally) this evening.:grinpimp:

PO said it was a '68. Door tag says built Oct 1969. Title says 1970. Go figger! This thing don't know what it is.

Thanks, all, for all of your help and advice.

I have decided that this is going be a budget stocker. Keep it simple, keep it stock, keep it economical.

First up, new left rear spring to get him on his wheels. Next up, 4 new or used tires. Then, get him ready to start. Thanks to all of you who posted to my "how to start it" thread.

If you live in my area (Billings, MT) and you have a spring or a set of tires, please PM me.

I'm reviving a 2/71 right now. Your truck is in far better shape than mine was!
Check out my web site. Link is in my sig. Might help you out a bit. Good luck with the build and post up pics!

I once dated a girl who said her dad was the Mayor of billings. Anyway is that a 60 I see down the road? Nice 40.

Good eye!! The '62 in the background is mine.

Thanks.

pm sent on the springs, Larry

Thanks, Larry. I'll contact you next week.

Here's the passenger footwell. I'm amazed at how clean this thing is.

I know these pics can sometimes be deceiving, but that truck looks to be in excellent shape. Great find!

Great looking rig. You are onto a good start with your project. I would find some used tires first, if you are staying near stock, smaller tires are easy to find as everyone is into the "more is better syndrome."

Rezarf <>< (on 35's :D)

The coil was loose on the floor there. It is an old one, unattached, headed for the trash.

Here is another pic showing the driver side footwell. Some surface rust there. Nothing major.

And another one of the back end. I'm not sure, but I think this interior is all stock. The headliner has fallen out, though, and is laying in a heap on the floor.

Later, I'll get a pic of the damaged left rear corner. I need a bit of body work done on it.

Rigger - Where did you find this truck? I'm amazed at the condition.

Is there a story that goes along with the 40?

There's not much of a story to it. I drive 3 miles each day to work here in Billings. This truck has been sitting in a driveway along my commute route kind of right in the middle of town. Not out in the open, but not really hidden either. I'm not sure when it was the first time I noticed it - maybe two years ago. And it was only a few months ago that I started to think how nice it'd be to have a '40. I was hoping that I could get this one. Finally, one day I left a note on the door of this house asking them if they'd sell it. The owner called me a few days later and said he'd sell it to me. Total dumb luck.

It has that damaged back spring and fixing it is priority one. It also needs new tires. But the more I look at this thing, the more I realize how nice it is. I feel fortunate to have been able to acquire it.
