Keep hunting for one on eBay hoping that I will be able to replace the one I missed out on last year for $150. Seems like median price has been hovering around $300 or so.

1000 mile update on the h55f and split case.

It feels broken in. It took about 250 miles before the notchiness went away but now it’s smooth. I’m going to swap the fluids in the trans/tcase and diffs to gl4 synthetic in the coming week. That will be the end of that story for a while.

The h55f has completely changed the truck. It’s cliche but it has to be said. On flat ground this is no longer a right lane cruiser. At 2600rpm the truck is happy and flying in 5th. It doesn’t matter how fast I drive, it gets about 14mpg on the highway. The biggest deal to me is that the truck runs far cooler at speed. I’m getting no more than 192* at speed so the thermostat and cooling system are working properly. I used to see 205-210* running at 2900-3200rpm and since the motor isn’t running as hard, temps are in check.

I did see some temps climbing at idle for long periods it would go from 190* to 210* with the ac running full blast in this 90* heat we have, but I would crank the hand throttle to 1500 rpm and t would bring the temp down to 190* really quickly, so that tells me nothing is wrong, just needs more coolant flow at idle. An ac pusher fan may come down the line for next summer.

I drove it hard through the hills around Austin up to Colorado Bend State Park. It really likes being left in 4th and staying above 2000rpm. It will lug the motor if you try and go up steep hills in 5th.

I’m still in disbelief that the 2F refuses to quit with 302,000 miles on it. The motor is spotless inside, and the current tune is spot on. It really makes me want to add a header onto it on the hopes of picking up a few HP, but since nothing is leaking any longer there is no true reason.

It knocked down 600 miles without issue. We did some swimming hole action at took the dog out for a good time. We have another car that gets 50mpg, but somehow we always end up taking the rust bucket.

Nice.....ordered mine last week. George says about 10 days.

I’m happy to hear that.

The truck has been commandeered by the wife for the time being. She told me “why didn’t you put this transmission in sooner!?”

She was terrified of the first with the h42 and the 33” tires. Lots of slipping and footwork.

Now it will roll out with just a slow clutch movement. I should have done this sooner!

It's a sad day. I just found out my tank was replaced in December 1991.

I really wanted a new tank as part of the recall, mine is pretty nasty.

I'm going to start thinking hard about an LRA 40 gallon tank. And a tire carrier. :bang:

Sucks....I picked up mine today. It was full when I dropped if off but empty when I went to start it. I went back in and the service manager told me that the gas they took out has stuff in it and she did not want them to put it back in, but would have it refilled. She did and I drove down to talk to Javier about my H55, which should be here in a couple of weeks. Really looking forward to it....I need a few oil filters by the way. I will PM you.

After 302,111 my horn finally stopped working.

New pin and contractor on the way. I feel like this is one of the final rights of passage for this truck.

Trimmed u bolts today and also put on my fire extinguisher mount.

Tomorrow I’ll fill the t case and transmission with some Delvac 50 for the 1,000 mile break in.

I’m almost out of things to do for our Colorado trip. Just waiting for bolts for my skid plate.

where did you get that mount? I have just seen the larger one from a website that drops the extinguisher down further out into the floor.

Some progress on the prepping for my trip to Colorado this Friday.

-for the first time since I’ve had my truck, the skid plate is back on. I’ve got no leaks. Amazing.

-swapped to Mobil delvac 50 synthetic gl4 transmission fluid on the h55f and split case

-fresh conventional 75w90 in both differentials.

-replaced my horn pin

The first plug is from the h55f. Not a ton of material. The second is from the rear diff.

Nothing worrisome aside from some water in my front diff. I need to stay up on this.

2,700 miles in 7 days from Houston, TX to Aspen, CO and back in a carbureted 100hp fast tractor. A few bandaids, some duct tape on a broken mirror, some ingenious fixes, 6 mountain passes, several wheel weights, more fill ups than I can count, some real learning experiences and a truck that’s far more capable off road then I can drive it. This truck impressed me without a doubt. 305,000 miles on the original 2F and it made the round trip without giving up. This thing is a tank. Wouldn’t change a thing.
