Thanks for the tip, @emac. Living the weatherstripping was super helpful when fitting the hard top sides!

As i recall, mine had a metal part that with cuts in it and it snapped into the window channel. The felt was attached to the metal/chrome part. Maybe we are talking about two different parts.

Yes, and no.

Some window runs have a chrome bead around the outside, and some do not. Mine did not, making it much easier to install.

Finally get to use the brackets that I got back from the powdercoater.

I know where they go, but I can’t remember the correct orientation.

Anyone want to snap a pic of theirs for me? They go across the top of the doors from the hardtop sides to the windshield frame.

Not the best picture, but maybe it helps. The two pieces slip into eachother. IIRC, some bolts go in to the top, then the other part cover them and bolts to the first part. That probably wont make sense until you figure it out!

Thanks @emac, but I’m talking about above the driver and passenger doors, not the ambi doors.

Hot soapy water and a toothbrush.

Then cover in thin coat of peanut butter, then buff the peanut butter with a clean cloth.

OK peanut butter didn't expect that so what about the white letters im a little shaky with an art brush how do you paint back the letters mine look like a kinder garden kid did it LOL thank you for your time truly

Before the peanut butter, but after washing, take a qtip with white oil based paint and carefully fill in the letters with heavy Paint. Quickly take a rag soaked in acetone or other solvent, and wipe across the top of the knob to remove any spots where you got outside the lines. Repeat the wiping until the top is perfectly clean, but the lettering remains.

Using this other set of ambi doors I have to help me remember how everything goes back into place.

New headliner going in. This is from Cruiser Corps. Equal to OE quality and materials in every way. Perforated too.

Looks like you did a good job on the headliner. The rear corners are challenging. I did mine and after looking at it for a few days, I ripped it out, ordered another CCOT one, and got my buddy that does interiors put it in. He is very good, and said it was a pain.

That thing is going to look good going through the Mississippi mud!

I also used the Cruiser Corps headliner, it is excellent!

I have been reading here for a long time and I have to post. This is the greatest build thread of all time. I can't believe you did this without a dedicated garage. I look forward to getting a 40 someday and making it a rolling restoration but you have now set the bar so high I don't think many can recreate the beauty that you have put back together here. My hat is off too you.

I am a tinkerer and one thing that I saw throughout this entire thread is the FJ40 is a simple machine. Every time you worked on a component, took it apart and cleaned it, I thought that is pretty simple you just need to take some time and patience to work on it. My first car was a 1979 Toyota Corolla Liftback. Loved the car, simple to work on. I really can't wait until I can work on my own 40.
