Dang, you get a lot of work done fast. Your tail pipe looks like a rock finder. You gotta cut that off higher and tighter.

You could have just built a 4x4Labs rear bumper kit and achieved the same result with way less stress. But still, what you did looks awesome.

The tailpipe is removable via v-band clamp. I've got a high-clearance tip I put on when off-roading. Another advantage of putting the system together with v-bands! Diesel soot is kept away from the body when driving around town with this big obnoxious tip and the high-clearance tip stays above the frame to avoid rocks.

About the 4x4labs kit, that certainly would have been an option, but I don't know what I want to do for the bumper design just yet. I know I don't want to do something "out of the box" as it would go against Moonshine's "theme".

This is just a crossmember. I tucked it in so that I don't lose a bunch more departure angle when I build the bumper that will bolt to this crossmember. The reason why it is done and the bumper isn't is because I needed a stronger crossmember to be able to safely tow up to CMCC next week.

Haven't decided what I'm going to do for a spare mount either, but it will integrate with the bumper. For now the spare will ride in the trailer to the event, then one of the spares I bring will be strapped down to the storage box.

The spare in the trailer is a good plan. Actually a great plan if the event keeps you close enough to your spare. Carrying a big spare is a pain. This will not work in Moab or Rubicon, though. Just don't be a Jeep guy and put the spare on the roof rack. That's an extra 100 pounds in the worst possible place.

The reason I bring up the 4x4Labs kit, is that you remove the rear crossmember and rebuild a new one as part of the bumper. Super beefy and good design especially for towing. Your solution looks super beefy too.

I've got to look up a "v-band clamp" because I don't know what it is, but it sounds like you'll get the exhaust out of harm's way. I wasn't thinking about the soot aspects of diesel. Maybe you could do the fake Kenworth F250 look with the vertical stacks. LOL.

Drew, v-band clamps are these things. Exhaust welds onto the sections on the left and right, then this clamp holds them together. It's air-tight and doesn't use a gasket. Makes taking the exhaust apart a breeze as opposed to something I dread.

I'll be ordering a couple of these in the near future for Goss' exhaust re-route... CAN'T WAIT... NOT!! I have to say that exhaust work is something I hate in general.

I hated exhaust as well, up until I started using these v-bands. Get them, and the builder's kit, from http://mandrel-bends.com. It's awesome being able to take the exhaust off to do work and not curse at it the whole time. That and the whole street/trail tip thing, I love that.

AWESOME.. Thanks Johnny. I can get 3 or 4" tube local pretty cheap. Its the bends/fittings that are an outrageous price.

Hobart Ironman 210 welder. It can weld better than I can, for sure.

I've heard good things about the Hobo Ironman 210. My machine is overkill for anything I'll weld anymore, but its there if I need it.

Finished up my rear crossmember last night before the sky opened up. 1/2" D-rings for my trailer safety chains, trimmed the parts that hung lower than the 2x4 and gave it all some black paint.

What would you use as a recovery point on the rear, just wrap a strap around the 2x4?

Still cranking away for CMCC next week. Today's mod includes helping provide clearance for the 39.5s.

I like it. I've been contemplating this two-tone paint job since 2007. It's done with plasti-dip so I can take it off if I change my mind.

Tomorrow comes the other side.

Great work Johnny, It's fun to hack and weld a panel for such a cool upgrade. (Well for me hacking and welding is always fun) Those 39.5s are HUGE and look good on Moonshine brother.
