Thats what you get for a lock right, the corners on those squared teeth round off and every few revolutions, POP, POP, it will wear the splines on the axle as well. I have a 9.5 detroit you can have, just needs surface rust wire wheeled clean and its good to go.

The Sequoia did great out there and is ready for the next adventure. Now I'm in full Sierra Trek prep mode. At Rubithon, I made a handful of runs up and down Cadillac Hill getting stuff in for the event and made a boneheaded mistake. I hit pavement at the staging area and turned right towards the restrooms for my son with everything locked in and the 40s at 8psi. There was a lovely noise from the front end and then I only had 3 wheel drive. So back down Cadillac I went after we were done loading things and fueling up and then came back up and out fully loaded with a trailer also loaded in 3 wheel drive. Found a side gear grenaded in the diff. @Firemedic831 brought me some 9.5 parts to make it whole again thankfully. I won't do that again...

The fender trim level with the hood is cracking me up. You just don't see full-on aggressive trimming like that on here very often. Like, "F%&# it. It's purpose built for wheeling, let's stop pretending."

Yup, it's a toy. I don't need it to appreciate in value or any other nonsense. I just need it to work. Now if only my brain did also, it would be ok

The only issue is the the hole front end works together to hold itself together!
You lose a hole lot of support eliminating the inner fender wells and cut that much of the radiator support away.
It’s been documented in other builds.

Having been a part of some fairly aggressive builds (one hilux, the fender trimming sort of kept going to include some of the hood...), I'd say that's true of most vehicles to some degree. Definitely worth putting some kind of structure back to hold it all together, just to keep the fan and the radiator from becoming intimate. Looking at the timetable of this build over the last few weeks, I'm thinking he wouldn't have had time before this trip.

I have some structure added to the inner fenders to keep them from flexing too much. I did that when I cut more to fit the 40s and had to trim the battery tray area a bit more. The radiator support got moved and attached a bit more securely a couple years ago when I toasted a radiator and discovered that the front end crash damage from before I bought it was worse than I knew. I didn't want that whole area moving around like crazy

This little man looks like he has been on trips with you before! 😂🤷‍♂️

He's pretty good at this. He's running with me on Rubidyce for Sierra Trek in a couple weeks, so another long drive down in the 80, and then we're doing another Rubicon run immediately following Sierra Trek. Then the drive home. He doesn't complain one bit. I even gave himn the option of jumping in the Sequoia on the way down when it was raining on us and threatening to snow. And then while it was snowing he could have made the jump. Nope, only interested in riding with me

Pat, could you send me the dates for the Fordyce & Rub trips coming up, didnt the Rub trip coincide with Tony's week at the Springs ?
John We will be running the Rubidyce run Aug 5-8. We will be at Meadow Lake Aug 2-4 setting up our Base camp . Then head over and run the Rubicon and end up back at Meadow Lake Fri Aug 8 . Jeff posted the info. I don't know that our run into Rubicon runs into the dates Tony is at the Springs, but I'm dropping back into Rubicon after Sierra Trek and I believe those dates coincide with his stay for sure.

Sierra Trek running the Rubidyce Trek to Trek with @Firemedic831 was a ton of fun. I was able to just wheel in a small group and we boogied through the trails. On Monday I drove out and set up basecamp at Meadow Lake. Tuesday we ran over get some lunch in Truckee and started into Rubicon from the Tahoma side around 5. Dinner and camp set up at the Springs for our Wednesday shenanigans on Rubicon.

The group gave a ride to a guy in a 4Runner that broke an 80 series steering box on Big Sluice and I left them my HiLift to help. We ran out to Soup Bowl that morning, but sadly it was overrun with Jeep guys parking on the face of the obstacle. I didn’t understand that one.

We then turned around and ran back to the Springs hitting Little Sluice and Old Sluice on the way. That was worth making this run alone. We had the 4Runner that broke badly on Fordyce with us last year. He did awesome this go around! We all killed it this trip. Taking fun lines and putting tires on everything we could.

When we got back to Rubicon Springs it was still light out and my HiLift was waiting for me. A steak and potato dinner was cooked and we called it early because the next day would start early so we could make Fordyce.

The next morning we got going a little bit earlier, up and out Cadillac Hill, and got to Truckee to fuel up, do some food shopping, grab some miscellaneous parts and had breakfast. Got started on Fordyce around 10:45. We moved at a really good pace and made the first water crossing just an hour later.

The crew at Winch Hill 1 had some snacks for us and they let us know that the main Sierra Trek run was still on WH1, so we took a good long break for lunch and to hang out by the water for a while before getting all the way to WH1. Another long snack break there with the club and sharing stories and we were on the move again.

I got a little off line after getting up the main ledge and popped my passenger from hub. We decided it would be best to just drive it to camp in 3wd as we were just camping at Comittee. Just drove faster over other obstacles and went up WH2 and across Committee Crossing and up the other side like nothing. Replaced the hub quickly and we had a nice dinner together. That’s an awesome campsite! I’d much rather camp there than almost anywhere.

The next morning we waited for the River Run to come down from Meadow Lake and get past us, then we took off up the trail about 10:45. With no traffic ahead us we were back at our pace. Made WH3 by 11:15 and sailed up it, WH4 and WH5 with no dramas at all and were at camp at Meadow lake before 1. It was definitely an awesome trip and nobody had any major mechanical problems or got badly hung up anywhere the whole time.

Over Thanksgiving weekend I joined some friends out in Johnson Valley. It was really an awesome trip, but I learned the limitations of what I have. Pulled the threads out of the aluminum end caps on the Red Neck Ram on Jack Hammer in a not so great place. Also I was paranoid the entire time in there every time I had to use a bit of throttle to come out of stuff or up ledges. All in all the 80 did fantastic all weekend. And it drove from Oregon and back again after without a hiccup

Immediately after getting home, I began shopping. I’m tired of worrying about my knuckles and axles every time I get to the fun stuff. Found a killer deal on a 99-04 Super Duty Dana 60 that I’ll cut and sleeve to make a passenger drop. Also got a full float 10.5 Sterling out of the same truck. That will go in the rear and get 3 linked. Also managed to snag a parts 14bolt full float that has a crack in the housing. I may look into fixing it or stripping it for its parts. Not sure yet

Also took my younger son shopping for supplies. It’s time for him to learn to weld and he’s been asking for a while.
