For tape I buy seconds/blems on eBay....1.5 and 2" by the case.

Pro tip right there. NICE.

We are running a different set of batteries on this truck from the #1 truck....I wanted to use dual Odysseys under the hood on this one(#1 has a single battery). Of course the camper portion of the truck will have it's own house battery.

The driver side battery tray is OEM...had to mod the bracket to make it work as this battery is lower than whatever normally fits in these trucks. We also notched out the back of the tray to clear the hold down portion of the base of the battery.

Not gonna fit....

Cut

Weld, cut some more, add riser to the side with the post.....and then redo it because someone put an oval hole in it.

Much nicer.....ready for powdercoat. We'll cut down that threaded post when we install the batter hold down for final.

The passenger side(right side) proved to be far more challenging....as I mentioned before, I could never find the correct tray for the right hand side. My Troopy has a battery mounted up in that corner and the HZJ73 has one of its batteries there. Narrow nose trucks though. The trays that come with the 79s look as if they are reversible but I couldn't figure out the combo. I spent hours looking at diagrams. Kind of figured I was going to be making something anyways because I needed to clear a few obstacles that a true 79 wouldn't....like an 80 series frame under it.

This is where we wanted it.....had to be low enough to clear the hood strut. The Odyssey I went with was the perfect height. Unfortunately that rear hanger wouldn't work with the hood strut. So while it looks like it would work...it wouldn't.

We propped up our tray with some wood and put in our mock battery to have a look around at how it was all going to work....

First of the mounts for the OEM tray. I wanted to be able to mount the battery tray down just like OEM. We came up with this cool little bracket that mounted to existing holes. We always try to use existing holes instead of drilling holes all over....unfortunately thought he lower bracket needed a couple of holes thru the fender.

The lower rear support is pretty slick. Wish we didn't have to put 2 additional holes in the fender but we just couldn't make it work without them....

This is how we finished up on the secondary battery tray. Pretty clean setup. Lot of hours in this......which I wasn't expecting but I'm fussy and wanted it just so. Turned out really well I think. I sure hope Odyssey continues to make this battery so I don't have to re-do the hold down when we replace batteries down the road.

Couple of needed parts came in from Partsouq today.....

ECU for the lockers. Pricey little box. Ouch.

The motor we are using was missing these braces....supports from the block to the bell housing. Would have never even knew they were there if I hadn't taken a close look at the last 1HZ that came in when it didn't sit down into it's wooden cradle that we strap them to dollies on....these were holding the motor up from sitting flush. Maybe some motors had them, some didn't? They are listed for a both auto and manual trans trucks.

Every time I have been under this truck I always looked at this area and felt something was missing......and apparently it was.

Got this thing fired up today. I had bought these DVDs a while ago but they operate on Windows XP....which none of our computers in the shop have. Bought a $50 laptop so we can run them. Should be helpful for wiring on this build for sure but it looks like it covers a lot of 70s stuff....

This information is also available via a subscription service with Toyota’s Global Service Information Center negating the need for an XP computer. :) Available through Toyota Europe.

If those discs open with internet explorer you may be able to use the developer tools and run it on a windows 10 machine. I have a CD-based Chrysler repair manual for my Challenger that I do that with.

Good to know....probably would have been cheaper vs. what I have. Every so often I like to really complicate things :)

When you said "developer tools", I knew it was far beyond what I am capable of......

It's actually easy. It has to be because I can do it. :hillbilly:

It could take me the better part of a week to figure it out......for now it's a $50 laptop. Plus it's kind of nostalgic to see Windows XP again :)

Hello Mr. Dan ..

could you explain a little bit more of the developer tool alternative .. coz I'm the guy who also bought a XP laptop to have these CD show their knowledge to me.

Despite the fact that modern laptops almost none have CD unit these days, I'm very interested if running on W10 it's an option ..

That HTML data is the same data that we export to the current Global Service Information Site, which can be access from any browser. I would guess rather than using the antiquated software to "run" that code, you just access the HTML files themselves and view in a browser. I do that with updates to repair data, just have an HTML file and drop it into chrome to browse.

Onur, I've been curious for some time if I can basically print my own FSM for my '94 FZJ75 through this service? I know you can for US based vehicles but I assume the same information is available for middle east spec vehicles? Are there different subscriptions or do you just subscribe and drop in the VIN?
