i would like to wire a kill switch into my car for an anti theft measure. what systems have y'all put one on (ignition, fuel, spark etc..)? and where are the wires? i cannot figure out where to splice in the switch. thanks. also i have a 1993 5spd 4runner 3.0.

No ones going to post their anti theft online.
Get a wiring diagram. Its very simple with multiple options

Lots of videos on YouTube.

Could interrupt the wire off the ignition switch going to the starter
Could interrupt power going to the ignition switch
Could interrupt the fuel pump power
Could interrupt the coil signal wire
Could make it a series of these.

Find a diagram, find the wire you want to interrupt, and wire it/them in an inconspicuous area with high quality splicing practices and switch(es) so you dont lose the OEM dependability of the function youre interrupting.

I had one in my old '92 4Runner, installed it about 25 years ago right after I bought it. It had a little box that tied into the ignition wiring, and I wired it so you had to flick the right turn signal once to get the truck to start. There was a "valet" switch on it to disable it. I liked how it not only prevented the truck from starting from the key, but it also grounded the + feed to the coil, so even if someone tried to bypass the ignition switch, it still wouldn't start. Never gave me any trouble. But I do know the guy that bought the truck from me didn't like it, so he took it out. I don't remember the brand, sorry.

I like this... especially since these trucks are not hard to break into. Killing the fuel pump seems like a good idea. It would lead the bad guy to think the truck just wasn't starting - totally plausible in a 35++ year old truck. A totally dead key might begin the search for the kill switch. Plus, ya gotta assume when the bad guy is cranking and cranking, the noise will be an incentive to give up quicker.

Oooh... what if... When the switch in Anti-Theft mode, turning the key honked the horn. ;-)

that would be a great idea! no idea how that would work though.

You can also do something like this. Using switched power means that the system goes back to safe mode every time you turn the vehicle off.

Fuel Pump.webp

Speaking a second language and reading electrical diagrams... two of my unmet life goals.

The momentary switch turns the relay on, the relay then feeds itself and the electrical item of your choosing. When you turn the key off the switched power turns off and the system goes back to safe.

A "kill" switch only works if you engage it every time you park. This way you don't have to remember, it's automatic.

I made it as simple as I could!!!!!!!

I once heard of a guy who wired his kill switch into his cigarette lighter, and that the truck would only start if you pushed it in as you cranked (so it would complete the circuit)

Hey! Aren't you supposed to be installing an air conditioning system in that truck? More wrenching, less posting!! :p

There is a kill switch in my Trekker....just kind of floating around. I took out a control module for some kind of emissions thing when I was putting in the kick panel speakers. I must have hit the switch. So when I went to start, without the emissions thing, the truck wouldn't start. Lol. Took me a little bit to figure that one out :)

Kinda like that little buzzer box under the dash for the key. If you just unplug it to kill the buzzer, the dome light stops working.

Well that explains that issue. Lol. Thanks!
