Rebuilt 85 22r with a Webber 32/36. Went back to mechanical from electric fuel pump. Long story short, I installed the mechanical fuel pump without the spacer. Ran fine for a few days, then, while driving home from the safety check station, loss of power, and engine died. Pulled on the shoulder, it will start for a second then die. Brother in law towed me home with the Duramax. No fuel coming out of the pump. Brand new, but not Kyosan, noticed that I did not put the spacer. I removed the pump and tried pressing the arm quickly, no fuel. Questions: can I just put the spacer with new gaskets on? Did I damage the pump? Did I damage the offset thingy on the cam that drives the pump? This pump looks like it is pressed together unlike my fj40 pump which can be taken apart.

That green valve cover is hideous (PO I promise) I have not had time to strip and repaint. Bed was falling off so I fabbed up a flatbed.

If it's supposed to have the spacer, why not use it? On a side note, are you running a fuel pressure regulator? The Weber only needs 2.5 - 3 PSI where the mechanical pump puts out around 12.

Had the elec pump and the po left the mech pump as a block off, no spacer. I made a mistake during rebuild, it happens, won’t be the last time. I had to rebuild my f engine twice because I did not set the dizzy all the way in and fawked the main bearing. Yes on the pressure reg, thanks for asking.

I'm kind of a zealot now on the whole regulator thing since a "professional shop we've done tons of carb replacements on older vehicles no worries" did a less than great install of a Weber 32/36 on my 80 pickup with 20R. Good luck getting this going!

Pump no good. Installed a new (Napa pos) with spacer + gaskets and ordered a kyosan for when this one leaves me stranded. Runs cherry, 2.5 psi pre carb on the gauge. Too lazy to research why Efi = no spacer and carb = spacer, if someone has that knowledge at their fingertips, please share.

Ya, no mechanical pump on EFI. The pump is electric and in the tank. On 22re engines there is a blockoff plate.

You will damage the pump with no spacer. The Kyosan that I just installed specifically states this.
