Did stuff, but didn't take many pix. My favorite, the root beer '40 basking in the sunshine, it got there and returned to the shop under it own power!:hillbilly:

Awesome work...look forward to seeing Jim wheel this one day.....and getting on his short list of possible future buyers when he moves on to something else....;-)

Yeeeessssss!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you kidding me? No mention of how it drives, power, etc?

The early indications are all good, steers, shifts, nice, etc. New motor, only has a few min run time on it, so being very easy on it. Also working a couple of issues, the big one is a leaking water pump, until that is resolved it wont get run much.

The thing starts up as soon as you turn the key...Tools R Us and Inkpot are master fabricaters... I have been watching this build off n on and they are top notch at figuring this stuff out........The review and pictures for Motor Trend and Car and Driver will be posted in the future pending some of the troubleshooting...

It gave another reason for antacid: We got it mostly wired, with the spark plugs out cranked it over, all good made almost 60psi oil pressure. Installed the plugs, still good crank, so put the ECU and IGN fuses in, cranked, no start.:frown: Went over the harness looked good, but no power at the check B+, some stuff not clicking (VSV, IAC, etc) so went home for the night.

In the morning decided to do the VOM tests at the ECU, passed everything but no power at two YEL-RED terminals. For this failure, the FSM says to test for continuity between the main relay and those terminals, fail. Look at the wire diagram, there is no connection between them? Looked further in the FSM and there is a diagram of just that part of the circuit, it shows a wire between them. So strip and put in a jumper, starts right up! Wired it perfectly to an imperfect diagram!:hillbilly:

How I do mid wire splices:

I wish this type of connector were more readily available. In this case made them, a butt splice, knocked the plastic off, then drove a taper punch to open it up.

Prefer not to cut the wire(s) if possible. This type of stripper makes it easy to strip in the middle of a wire. In some cases the insulation will stay stretched back, other it needs to be done twice and the part in the middle cut out.

Put the connector over the stripped wires, using the pointed part of the crimper, fold the first edge down tight. Then use the rounded part to fold the second edge down, then back to the pointed part for the final crimp.

In this case was able to use shrink wrap, only three ends were connected, often have to tape them.

When you have to tape in tight places, a full roll wont fit. if using a piece of tape, it either sticks to everything that you don't want it to or picks up dirt. So use a socket to make a mini roll, works great, good control, dirt free!:hillbilly:

Most of the wire straps were broken or hard, close to breaking. We found these at Space Age, fit in the same size holes and have a release tab, so reusable.

Super clean setup, you guys do really nice work. Looking forward to a write up on driving impressions.

The water pump leak, did you put thread sealant on the long bolts that go in to the water cavities in the block?

Very impressive, this is not an easy conversion.

Awesome!!!! I'm confused on how the midwire splice gets the shrink wrap from the picture. This is a ninja trick I must learn.

You guys are amazing.

Can't tell for sure, but it looks like the inner seal died. Leaking from the weep hole.:crybaby:

A couple of the wire ends were not yet hooked up, so was able to slide it over. In most cases, have to tape this type of splice.
